Discover how the super wealthy used to live during the 17th century in this luxurious mansion! At the Willet Holthuysen Museum, located in the heart of Amsterdam, will introduce you to its original owners Louisa Willet-Holthuysen and Abraham Willet, the affluent couple that was living in the picturesque merchant house on Herengracht from 1861 to 1895 and who later donated it to the city of Amsterdam along with its interior furnishings.
The Willet Holthuysen Museum takes you on a tour through the couple’s lives, from the ladies’ salon, where Louisa received her visitors, the picturesque dining room and conservatory with an amazing view of the garden to the gentlemen’s parlour, where Abraham used to share his passion for art with his friends. The ticket includes a free audio tour in multiple languages that tells the story of the former occupants, making it a great and educational experience for all ages.
Today, the Willet Holthuysen Museum is the only canal house with its original interior still intact that is open to the public. The beautiful dining room, elegant ballroom and magnificent bedrooms in the lavish Louis XIV style as well as the lush gardens are a window into an opulent past. The kitchen of the Willet House features an impressive display of dining items from the 18th and 19th centuries, including a collection of fine blue and white Delftware porcelain.
The museum is also home to several paintings by famous Dutch artists of the era, most notably those of Adriana Johanna Haanen and Jacob de Wit. It also features luxurious collections of Venetian glass, silver and German porcelain as well as weapons, rare books, contemporary French and Dutch paintings and much more.

Stumbled across this house on our way to rembrandtplein. Decided to go in and enjoyed looking around. Audio is a must. Can’t beat a good tour. Interesting that a previous curator seems to have got rid of a few things 🤔🤔

Lovely small museum that is a private home preserved and also offers rotating museum exhibits within the home and gardens. It's easy to see in less than an hour and interesting to see how the family lived and the detail of the building, the art and the gardens. If you want a smaller experience than the huge museums and like seeing historically preserved homes, this is a must see!

Only visited because included with the I Amsterdam card. Worth visiting if you have the card. Nicely presented and interesting to see a canal house in terms of decor from the period & just how deep it is front to back. Doesn’t take long to go round, 25 min max.

Beautiful mansion that provides a feel of the opulent life led by the original inhabitants. The furniture, stairways, paintings, and sculptures were interesting. the self-guided tour was good.
