Cannabis Sativa L., also known as hemp or marihuana , has been one of the reasons people are drawn to Amsterdam for a long time, making the Dutch capital the perfect location for the Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum. The Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum is dedicated to the versatility and history of the plant and exhibits a unique collection of several thousand objects related to cannabis, ranging from paintings to hemp ropes and medicinal cannabis bottles. It's the largest museum collection dedicated to the cannabis plant in the world!
Hemp has an unimaginable number of uses. It is used, for example, in the automotive, cosmetics, food and fashion industries. All these purposes are represented in two venues of the Museum. You can even visit a real cannabis garden at the museum. In the afternoon, there is also a demonstration of the so-called vaporization, which you do not want to miss.
Founded in 1987, the Cannabis Museum in Amsterdam is the oldest museum in the world dedicated to Cannabis Sativa L. Since its opening, the Museum has welcomed more than two million visitors. Throughout history, cannabis has been part of many civilizations. From ancient shamanic rituals to modern-day medicine; from 17th-century shipbuilding to today's superfood; from hemp fields in the Dutch countryside to the numerous coffee shops in Amsterdam.
There is no plant known to humankind that is as resourceful as cannabis: of course, as a means to relax, but even more as a medicine and as a raw material for various industries. The Cannabis Museum focuses on the many uses of the plant, its history over the years and its future potential.
A visit to the Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum is a truly unique experience and will complete your visit to Amsterdam. Become an expert and amaze your friends back home with your cannabis knowledge. Tickets include a free audio tour, which is available in English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Russian. The museum is only a 5-minute walk away from Dam Square. Secure the time slot that works best with your schedule and book your tickets for the Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum comfortably online!

The tour was really informative and very engaging. The history of hemp (which I did not know a lot about) was fascinating.

This museum is a must see even for those who do not enjoy the herb. It showcases the versatility of the hemp plant and the long, long history of cannabis across many cultures.

The museum is located in two buildings in the centre of the Red-Light District. A lot of exciting information.
