Even more fun things to do in Amsterdam
As well as the special Pride events, there’s plenty more to experience in Amsterdam. Why not take a canal cruise and discover Amsterdam from the water? During Pride, the city comes alive with colour, celebration and a unique atmosphere that you can experience from the canals. The Lovers Canal Cruises boats follow a different route to the Canal Parade on 1 August, so they aren’t part of the parade itself.
Looking for a unique art experience? Then visit the Van Gogh & Rembrandt in Amsterdam experience, an impressive light show at the Noorderkerk. Here the works of Vincent van Gogh and Rembrandt come to life. During the show, you’ll discover how Van Gogh was inspired by Rembrandt, and the artworks are projected in spectacular way onto the church walls. Please bear in mind that this light show is a separate experience and isn’t part of the museums.
Prefer something completely different? Then visit the Amsterdam Icebar for an ice-cold experience in a bar made entirely of ice, even the glasses you drink from!
Tips for a well-prepared Pride
- Use public transport, walk or hire a bike. In the city centre, these are the most convenient ways to get around, as many roads are closed to cars during Pride.
- Arrive at events in good time. This way, you’ll increase your chances of getting a good spot and won’t miss out on any of the atmosphere.
- Dress in bright, festive colours, but make sure you’re comfortable too. Be prepared for both hot days and an unexpected rain shower, as the weather in Amsterdam can be changeable.
- Bring a fully charged power bank, a bottle of water and sun cream. This way, you’ll stay in touch, find your way around easily and protect yourself from the sun.
- Respect the residents of Amsterdam. Keep the city clean, don’t leave any rubbish behind and be considerate of the people who live there.
