The Samurai Museum Berlin is the largest private collection of authentic samurai artefacts outside of Japan. Visit this fascinating display of items and learn about the fascinating lives of the Samurai and their role in Japan’s history. And the exhibition includes interactive multimedia installations and real Noh and Taiko performances too. The most complete Samurai experience in Europe.

The samurai were the warrior class of Japan for many centuries, roaming the islands, fighting wars for noblemen, protecting the emperor and the country. From the 13th century to the late 19th century they were considered the most fearful warriors of Japan. The culture that surrounded them was extensive, with incredible armoury and weapons, art, literature, ceremonies and much more.

The biggest collection in Europe

At the Samurai Museum Berlin you can learn all about this fascinating culture, and admire more than a thousand objects related to Samurai life. The collection doesn’t just show swords and armour, but also prints, sculptures, tea utensils, theatre masks and other fascinating artefacts. The museum also has many multimedia installations, where you can learn interactively about the objects and their role in samurai culture.

Follow your guide, the mythical creature Kitsune, who will accompany you through the museum and teach you about the different topics of the exhibitions. Also, on the second floor, you can visit a traditional Japanese tea house, with tea ceremonies happening daily, as well as an authentic Noh theatre. Every thirty minutes excerpts of Noh theatre or Taiko drum performances take place in this theatre, don’t miss out!
