Visit the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam
The Van Gogh Museum on Amsterdam’s Museum Square has the world’s largest collection of paintings, drawings and letters by Van Gogh. You might think you know who Van Gogh was, as he is famous for his sun flower paintings and cutting of his ear. But there is so much more to know about the artist who lived such a short life.
With the help of over 200 of his paintings, 500 drawings and more than 750 letters, the museum lets you explore and discover the artists life and art in a way you cannot do anywhere else. The museum also features art by Van Gogh’s contemporaries, such as Auguste Rodin, Claude Monet, Georges Seurat and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. With these pieces the museum provides the context in which Van Gogh created his works.
Experience Van Gogh & Rembrandt in Amsterdam
Van Gogh mentioned Rembrandt over 100 times in the letters on display at the Van Gogh Museum. He was inspired by Rembrandt’s work and his approach to creating them. Van Gogh & Rembrandt in Amsterdam portrays this inspiration in a unique way with a son-et-lumière show.
The entire inside of the Noorderkerk in Amsterdam is turned into a 360° moving canvas, as the walls and the church rafters portray some of the artists’ most profound works. At the same time, Van Gogh’s own words can be heard throughout the church to tell you his story. This immersive experience is the first of its kind to be shown on such a scale inside a national monument.
