About

The many sides of war

With this combination ticket you can visit both the Danish War Museum and the Museum of Danish Resistance. Together these two museums look at different aspects of war both in Denmark and abroad. This combination ticket is perfect for those who want to discover more about the history of warfare and the impact it has on people.

The military museum in Copenhagen

The Krigsmuseet on Slotsholmen is located inside King Christian IV’s Arsenal Hall, next to the royal stables at Christiansborg Palace. The 156-metre-long Arsenal Hall has been home to cannons since the 17th century. Today, the hall explores the different wars Denmark has been a part of through 8 different exhibitions.

The exhibitions range from historical items, such as weapons, model planes and metal armour, to a recreated Danish military camp from the war in Afghanistan. The collection also includes items from other armies, including American Civil War and Tsarist Russia uniforms. A visit here will let you explore the history of war equipment as well as the impact of war on people.

5 perspectives on World War II in Denmark

The Museum of Danish Resistance gives you the opportunity to experience the war through the eyes of 5 different Danes. Four of them joined the resistance in different ways, while the fifth became a Nazi. By following these 5 people, you will get a sense of the difficult choices and dilemmas people faced during the war.

As you follow along you can even join in some of the resistance’s activity yourself, from tracking acts of sabotage and printing illegal magazines, to tapping phone conversations and decoding secret enigma codes. It is all part of the experience of visiting the mostly underground Museum of Danish Resistance.
