Visiting the Keukenhof is something that is on a lot of people’s bucket list and the Keukenhof in 2019 promises to be nothing but spectacular as always. But what we also know is that the trip to the Keukenhof gardens raises a lot of questions. For starters, the Keukenhof isn’t actually in Amsterdam. It is in Lisse. Which brings us to the first question you might have: How do I get to the Keukenhof? Don’t worry though, we’ve had years of experience in showing people from all over the world the beauty of the Keukenhof Gardens and we will share all our knowledge here in our blog. This way you’ll be fully prepared and don’t have to worry about a thing once you arrive in the Netherlands.
What is the location of the Keukenhof?
So let's start with the location of the Keukenhof. Many people think the Keukenhof is in Amsterdam, but the gardens are actually located in Lisse. Lisse is a short 40-minute drive by coach (depending on traffic) from Amsterdam. The town is located in the middle of what we call the Bollenstreek (bulb region). This is the part of the Netherlands where all the flower fields are located, so it makes sense for the Keukenhof to be located in the middle of that.
How to get to the Keukenhof Gardens from Amsterdam Central Station?
Most people who visit the Keukenhof Gardens stay in Amsterdam. It is quite easy to get to the Keukenhof from Amsterdam Central Station. Tours & Tickets organizes multiple tours a day during the Keukenhof in 2019, that all depart from Amsterdam Central Station. You can choose between a guided tour, a guided tour with a stop at a bulb farm or a direct transfer ticket that includes transport and a fast-track entrance ticket to the gardens. This way you don’t have to worry about public transportation.
When is the best time to visit the Keukenhof gardens in 2019?
This year the Keukenhof is open from March 21st till May 19th, 2019. The flowers though are the creation of mother nature and are influenced by the weather. If spring decides to come early this year, then the bulbs will bloom from day one but might wither before the final day. If spring comes late this year or if we get frost in the coming months then the flowers might bloom later. So we can’t be sure when the Keukenhof Gardens will be fully in bloom. Tulip season starts around mid-April, but the crocuses, daffodils, and hyacinths usually show themselves earlier. What we can tell you is that almost every year April was a good month for flowers. It is also the busiest month in the Keukenhof though, so choose wisely.
