2025 is the year SAIL Amsterdam comes back to the city for the first time in 10 years. Sadly the 2020 edition had to be cancelled, but that just makes this next SAIL Amsterdam even more special. Especially as it is the 10th edition of the maritime event that has no equal in the world.
What is SAIL Amsterdam?
SAIL Amsterdam is a maritime event unlike any other in the world, that normally occurs every 5 years. Beautiful ships and boats from around the world make their way to Amsterdam for this event, during which there are many activities for visitors to enjoy. From stepping on board the ships for a tour to a boat tour amongst them on the water, this event is your chance to get up close to some of the greatest ships.
Among the ships that come to the event will be tall ships, including three- and four-masts, navy ships, heritage ships, and ships from the Dutch fleet. All together they make for a magnificent sight, especially during the SAIL IN and SAIL OUT. On the first and last day of the event, the ships move between the North Sea and the city of Amsterdam, and back, along the Noordzeekanaal.
When is SAIL Amsterdam?
SAIL Amsterdam 2025 will take place from 20 to 24 August. It will be the 10th edition of the event, as well as its 50th anniversary, and it takes place during Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary. Which all means, that it will be an edition unlike any before it and it will be a not to miss event in the summer of 2025.

What to do during SAIL Amsterdam ?
Many activities during the event are free to visit, but for some you do need to purchase a ticket. Throughout the event there is a fitting cultural and festive programme to enjoy in the different areas of SAIL, known as oceans. From floating art work, to speed dating and getting married on a tall ship, it’s all part of the experience.
There will be boat tours throughout the day, both with and without drinks. Every evening will conclude with a spectacular show including fireworks. Which you can enjoy with a special drinks cruise on the water.
