About

What to expect from the Swedish History Museum

The Swedish History Museum brings the past to life, from dramatic encounters and everyday moments to tales of love, power, and celebration. Here you can immerse yourself in Swedish history, from the Ice Age right up to today, and discover how the past shapes our world. The museum offers numerous exhibitions to explore the different ages of the past.

Among some of the most notable exhibitions at the museum is “The Viking World”, which is one of the biggest Viking exhibitions in the world with thrilling stories, interactive stations and 2,500 original objects. Another not-to-miss exhibition is “The Gold Room”, which displays much of the museum’s 52 kilos of gold and over 200 kilos of silver. There are guided tours available, as well as audio guides and activities for children.

Economy meets history at the Economy Museum

The Economy Museum, also known as the Royal Coin Cabinet, is a great place to learn about the history of money and economics in Sweden. Among the museum’s many artefacts is the world’s heaviest coin which weighs almost 20 kilos! Other objects on display include Sweden’s first banknotes and a Bitcoin ATM.

The Economy Museum in Stockholm has two permanent exhibitions, MONEY! And the Economy Lab. The first takes you on a journey through Sweden’s history and lets you discover how money and economics have impacted society and people’s lives. The Economy Lab is designed for 10 to 18 year olds to learn how money works in daily life, to think about what taxes should be spent on and how the money we influence the world through what we choose to buy.
