About
Face-to-face with wild animals from around the world
ZOO Copenhagen is divided into different areas that represent parts of the world. You’ll find special areas dedicated to the North and the Arctic Ring, Asia, Tasmania, the Savannah, and there is petting zoo for children as well.
In the North, you’ll find harbour seals, snowy owls, reindeer, musk oxen, brown bears, arctic foxes and grey wolves. The North also includes the Arctic Ring which has an aviary for North Atlantic seabirds and an exhibit with polar bears, where you can see them swim under water from a tunnel.
The Asian part of Copenhagen ZOO has a wide range of animals, from otters and tapirs to leopards and tigers. This part of the zoo also has an Elephant House with multiple Asian elephants; males, females and calves. And an impressive Panda House, where you can see two giant panda’s who arrived in the zoo in 2019.
Other animals you will see in the ZOO in Copenhagen are Tasmanian devils, wallabies, kangaroos and wombats. As well as white rhinos, giraffes, impalas, zebras and hippos. The Children’s Zoo has farm animals and small domestic animals such as llamas, goats and rabbits.
Feeding the animals and yourself
Throughout the day you can watch amazing feeding demonstrations with the black-capped squirrel monkeys, polar bears, chimpanzees, hippos, and mongooses. Kids can help to take care of the pigs at the children’s zoo and learn about animals through workshops. The activities in the park are different every day so be sure to check the calendar on the zoo’s website (Danish only).
Copenhagen ZOO has several restaurants and snack stalls where you can find food and drinks from around the world. Bistro Panpan offers French dishes with an Asian twist, Spisehuset FOLK has classic Danish food, and the menu of Cakes & Dreams is filled with delicious pastries.

Lovely day out
The zoo can be a full day out - lots to do as you can ask for an activity pack for kids and there are two massive sides. You can feed goats and pet other farm animals as well. Food option are a bit expensive as well as any other toys but I managed to snag some sunglasses which exchanged to £5!
This zoo had so many animals. So varied and beautiful exhibits. Well worth a visit. The animals looked well cared for
This zoo is great, I was in awe.
A good experience
We came to visit the zoo on our last day in Copenhagen. It's a bit dated, but lots of wildlife to go and see, including areas where you can walk among the animals. The savannah area has lots of different animals together so well worth checking that out. Overall, a good experience.
Luggage room
We visited 5/2026 and they had a luggage room by the entrance. The cashier at the gate spotted our carry-ons and asked if we would like him to overcharge us with 10 DKr so we could pay for storing them. We did, and the gate clerk then took our luggage and gave a ticket for them.
Discover the Magic of Summer at Copenhagen Zoo!
A visit to Copenhagen Zoo is more than just a day at a zoo — it is a beautifully organized journey through nature, wildlife, education, and family entertainment. Especially during the summer season, the atmosphere becomes vibrant and unforgettable, combining Scandinavian elegance with the excitement of adventure and discovery. From the moment visitors enter, the zoo reflects outstanding discipline, cleanliness, and professional organization. The pathways are spacious and well designed, allowing guests to move comfortably between the different animal areas while enjoying beautiful landscaping, flowers, and relaxing green spaces. The staff and guides are remarkably welcoming, always ready to provide information, directions, and detailed explanations about the animals and activities available throughout the park. One of the most enjoyable parts of the summer experience is the outdoor barbecue and dining areas, where families and visitors can relax while enjoying fresh food in a lively atmosphere surrounded by nature. The souvenir market is also wonderfully displayed, offering beautifully arranged catalogues, educational books, animal-themed gifts, and memorable keepsakes presented with excellent attention to detail and presentation. The educational aspect of the zoo is exceptional. Interactive digital screens are placed throughout the park, providing fascinating explanations about animal habitats, behaviors, conservation efforts, and environmental awareness. These modern displays make the visit highly informative for both children and adults. The zoo successfully combines entertainment with education in a professional and engaging way. Children’s activities and games are another highlight. The play areas are safe, creative, and full of energy, giving young visitors an opportunity to enjoy interactive experiences while learning about wildlife. Horse riding activities are supervised carefully by trained team members who guide visitors professionally and teach them how to interact safely and respectfully with animals. The animal enclosures themselves are impressive, designed to create a natural and comfortable environment for the animals while allowing visitors excellent viewing opportunities. Whether observing majestic elephants, playful monkeys, powerful lions, or exotic birds, every section feels thoughtfully planned and professionally maintained. Overall, Copenhagen Zoo stands as one of the finest zoological experiences in Europe — a perfect blend of education, entertainment, hospitality, and nature. During the summer, it transforms into a lively destination full of warmth, culture, family activities, and unforgettable memories for visitors from around the world.
Zoo
Amazing zoo that I've been to well set out plenty of space for the animal which are well cared for and all the amenities you need
Fantastic Zoo!
Possibly the best zoo we have ever visited. The site is beautiful laid out, the animal welfare was clearly top priority and the enclosures were immaculate. The animals were all very happy and relaxed. The tower was a fun extra to too to have a good view of the city. .
Close up with Animals
We visited in late December. The zoo was fairly quiet, and some of the animals were inside. The zoo was well-spaced out and clean. The elephant enclosure looked fairly fresh, and it was really good to see the elephants up close. Some of the food places were closed; this may be because of the time of year, but there were enough places to get drinks and snacks. There was a nice park for children to play. I'd say you could spend up to 4 hours here. We used the Copenhagen card to get there and cover the entrance fee. We caught the 7A bus from the center, and it took 8 stops, roughly 15 minutes, to get there. The bus stop is directly outside the zoo, and the buses were regular and easily accessible. Its not the biggest zoo we have done but if tou do have some free time you may want to visit. Staff where helpful and freindly and spoke in Danish and good English
Great family visit
Excellent zoo. We had fantastic weather for this time of year. Went with our 19 month old who loved every second of it, especially the children's zoo. Easy to reach, bought tickets ahead on their website which was a bit cheaper. Highly recommend.
Better than expected !
Was pleasantly surprised how much was here , not the biggest zoo in the world , but seemed to have fit loads in ! Considering there was snow everywhere we still managed to see almost all the Animals , and the layout made it pretty easy to find our way around without missing anything .
Highly recommended
Excellent zoo, very clean and well looked after, great areas for the animals, had Tasmania devils which have never seen in a zoo before and mongoose as wdll
If you can, get lunch at Bistro Ailu, for a great meal while seeing the Giant Panda
I’m always a little nervous about visiting zoos in Europe, as you hear bad things about some but Copenhagen Zoo was an excellent day out, mainly. There are certainly some enclosures that need to be much bigger (Amur Leopards, Polar Bears, Lions to name a few), but they have been modernising and improving the zoo over recent years and these things take time. I trust that all the animals will have more than the minimum space required by legislation, in the coming years. They have an impressive number of different animals. It was my first time seeing a Tasmanian Devil, an Echidna or a Northern Talapoin! And the first time I’ve seen ring-tailed lemurs roaming free - we had an embarrassing moment as I thought one had escaped and then the member of staff we ran to explained they were free-roaming and find their way back to ‘home’. Of course, we then saw a sign saying this, on the other side to where the little lemur had been frolicking!!! Whoops! It did seem very strange but if they’ve not lost any, it must work for them. We didn’t get to see the tigers or red pandas but now know that both have recently had babies, so that’s understandable. The shop was ok but could benefit from more zoo-branded pocket money items like pencils and pens, erasers, badges etc. They had some magnets and some other bits, and some huge retro postcards (no standard size ones) but the rest of the shop was generic animal-related souvenirs. A penny press machine would be a great thing for them to have! The Giant Pandas are a big draw to the zoo and we had lunch in Bistro Ailu, watching the male panda playing on enrichment provided, and then happily munching on his bamboo. It was a really great experience. The food in Bistro Ailu was delicious! We shared a few small plates and a big shout out must go to our server, Zoe (I hope that’s the right name, that’s what was on the receipt 06/10!) who really looked after us amazingly and even made sure we had a Bao each as she couldn’t possibly have let us share one with them being so good! Absolutely correct, that Bao was the star! And the fries were a close second - whatever that seasoning is, is just incredible!!! We spent just under 5 hours in the zoo and probably could have done with another 2 hours really. If you’ve ever been to London Zoo, it has a secondary part that you get to, under a walkway, just like London. So don’t miss that as there are lots more animals on that side too
Wonderful Day at Copenhagen Zoo
Visiting Copenhagen Zoo was a great experience. There was an impressive array of different animals, and all the enclosures were well-designed to suit each animal’s needs. While it was quite busy, this didn’t take away from the enjoyment of the day. A fantastic place for animal lovers and families alike.
This became somewhat my vivid memory of this summer
We were staying nearby and the final day until our evening flight we went there and had seen many rare animals such as pandas and Tasmanian devil
Clean, well-laid out and excellent viewing access
We generally are cautious about zoos for welfare reasons but from our perspective the animals all seemed to be healthy and with adequate space (but we are not experts!) Certainly the viewing access for humans is excellent and it was surprising how close we could get to the animals while maintaining appropriate distance. The layout is easy to navigate and our visit coincided with a quiet Monday afternoon. The zoo is easy to access on the bus.
it is a must for children
we loved it and we are definitely going back. the penguins, seals, tigers, and of course the polar made it enchanting for us.
Absolutely fantastic time at the zoo!
Both my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our time in the zoo. The enclosures were good and the animals seemed happy and energetic. Loved seeing the polar bears and the Africa savannah habitat. We also enjoyed the farmyard as you could get up and close with all your favourite farm animals. The zoo itself seemed to have a lot of culture and history which we thoroughly enjoyed.
A Zoo for People Who like to see animals up close!
This is a terrific zoo for people but not so good (enclosures) for animals. You are able to get very close to lions, giraffes, rhinos, pandas, etc, actually all the animals. The selection is huge and there is a separate African area with those animals. Food choices are limited so (you can) bring your own. This zoo is not humongous but there is a wonderful assortment of animals.
Well worth a visit!
My 11-year old son loved his trip to the zoo yesterday. He’d never seen polar bears or hippos before. The latter are his favourite animal. We, his parents, had fun too. I loved seeing the pandas, big cats and Asian otters. Tripadvisor, you need to update your closing times for the summer. The park shuts at 8pm not 6pm! We left at 7pm and the crowds had gone by then.
Absolutely amazing zoo!
This was an amazing zoo, the enclosures all looked incredible for the specific animals. None of them seemed stressed, I absolutely loved it here, we were able to have a drink sitting next to the elephants watching the baby, it was an incredible day out, would recommend
A Must-Visit for Polar Bear Fans – Great Day Out for All Ages
We visited Copenhagen Zoo mainly because my teenage daughter is obsessed with polar bears — and finding out they had them here made it a must-do for our trip. The polar bear enclosure didn’t disappoint and was the absolute highlight for her. We also really enjoyed seeing the other animals, especially the elephants and kangaroos. The zoo was easy to find, with plenty of parking just across the road. There were lots of food outlets around the zoo too, which was really helpful for keeping everyone happy during the visit. Well laid out, family-friendly, and a great way to spend the day — we’d definitely recommend it!
Polar bears!!
Big selection of animals which look well cared for with plenty of space. The polar bears were the best bit spent an hour here alone! We had a great time and spent a good amount of hours here. Lots of food options catering for lots of different diets which was impressive too. Did not find this too expensive for Denmark.
Wonderful trip to Copenhagen Zoo
Visited Copenhagen Zoo for the first time in 25 years, and wow, a lot had changed since then. It was a really good experience and it was exciting to see the many enclosures for the animals. The lion cubs were cute and enjoyed themselves on their "table" catching food from a tree. The elephant enclosure is OK-sized. Much better than when I was there 25 years ago. I also had the pleasure of seeing two giraffes mating, haha. I did find it a bit confusing to find my way around Copenhagen Zoo though. I will definitely come back at another time. The ticket was not that expensive as I got a 15% discount on it.
Large selection of animals from around the world
Quite a large zoo with an impressive selection of animals. Some where in well thought out enclosures others not so much. It's always difficult with zoo's to please everyone but unfortunately they have a place for conversation and also allows the opportunity for everyone to see animals they wouldn't normally have a chance to. It would have been expensive to get in but we used the Discovery Copenhagen card
Great educational day out
Great and educational zoo. There was a lot of enrichment for the animals too and information about conservation. I saw animals I've never seen before like polar bears and pandas. And the place is massive so it's very easy to spend hours wandering.
Well sprint day
We came here on a cold winter day,but all the animals were or outside or in the heated space. The zoo is huge and you can experience everything without worries about weather conditions. We enjoyed polar bears swimming above our heads, hippos swimming around us and we even got a chance to touch the giraffes while they were in the heated space. Would highly recommend to everyone!
A Great City Zoo
Was really impressed with this Zoo. By no means the biggest zoo, however the exhibits are well designed and stocked with a good selection of healthy animals. With numerous indoor sections, such as the tropical zone, chimp area and part of the elephant exhibit - it made for a pleasant walk, especially in the cold of Dec. I would say the stand out animals for me were the giraffes (mostly because we were able to get so close to them while feeding), and the poison dart frogs (because of the large variety of colours and visibility of their exhibit). Of course the pandas were also nice to see! Allow for at least 3 hours to see the whole zoo and the separate safari section across the road. Bonus: we stopped at the Burger House for lunch and enjoyed amazing burgers - absolutely top notch!
Nice zoo but room for improvement
Well laid out zoo in two bits linked by an underpass. Not a huge zoo but there's still a lot to see. Didn't get to see all the animals as it was snowing when I went and they were sensibly taking shelter. Highlights were pandas, polar bears and Tasmanian devils. A couple of negatives - the Amur leopard looked a bit sad and not convinced the exhibit's big enough, and the chimpanzees seemed to be fighting when I was there which was actually a bit frightening. Bus to/from central Copenhagen stops right outside.
Zoo trip
Amazing large zoo with lots of space for every animal. Loved seeing the giraffes, elephants, polar bear, brown bear, pandas, lions and tigers, penguins and otters. Tasty pizza roll, warming on a cold and rainy day where the cold weather didn't stop us going or enjoying ourselves. Lovely hot chocolates at great price. Large gift shop for gifts of all ages.

An amazing zoo with a great collection of animals
A great zoo! An amazing and varied animal collection and can definitely spend a good few hours here! Reasonably priced food and gifts in comparison to the location. Definitely worth a visit for the pandas and bears alone!
Best zoo I’ve been to
This was the best zoo I’ve ever been to. You can get so close to the animals! There is such a wide range of animals. You can literally walk through the kangaroo enclosure! There is also plenty of seating around and you are able to bring in your own food. It is clear that they continue to renovate some of the enclosures. Our only gripe would be that the tigers should be next as they seemed unhappy.
Top Zoo Experience
Probably one of my favorite zoo experiences. I live in the Colorado in the USA and have even been to the famous San Diego Zoo, which I love The experience in Copenhagen did not disappoint. When we entered the zoo we were immediately mesmerized by the beautiful lion and lioness chilling neck and neck. The panda sat on her back and ate her bamboo and entertained us for the longest period of time. The other animals were active. They had a baby elephant and hippo. We could even walk through the kangaroo's enclosure. The giraffes were eye level with us and we were able to get a few ear scratches in. It was October, so not crowded.
Great zoo and lots of animals to see.
We spent a Sunday here and this is probably one of the best zoos I have visited in Europe. Lots of animals, that were in bigger enclosures. We were really lucky as we managed to see most of the animals up close as well. I would come back here again.
Fantastic zoo where you can get up close to all the animals!
What a great place! It’s not often that you can visit a zoo and get so up close with all the animals. They all seemed very happy and there was so much space to see them both inside and outside. I’m not sure whether the adults or toddler had more fun!
Enjoyed our last day in copenhagen
It was a perfect day, sun was out with cool breeze. Had the chance to finish over 15K steps :) It was big we finished it in 4 hours. So many animals to see and lots to learn about. Loved the variety from tiny species to large. Loved that there are multiple play areas for small kids to take break and enjoy playing. Walkways were wide and you can get so close to some animals. I consider it one of the best zoo. Some cages were dirty and needed to be cleaned. Could not find the brown bear and caracal. We almost missed seeing the hippos. There were inside their cage sleeping. It was nice to see the horses, cows, lama, and goats to be part of the zoo for the first time, we had the chance to pet and feed them. Excellent place worth it
Talk to the animals
Well worth getting the Copenhagen pass as cover most buses some trains and entry to a lot of places. Took a number 7A bus from Copenhagen central station to the zoo took about 15 minutes. Zoo was well spaced out and the enclosure for the animals were big enough for them to move about and play. The monkeys were funny chasing each other You can walk through the middle of the kangaroo enclosure and stand next to one. Spent a lovely afternoon walking about so comfy shoes are a must.
Must visit for all ages!
This is the best zoo I’ve ever visited. The animal enclosures are exceptional, thoughtfully designed to mimic their natural habitats. The animals appear happy and thriving, with many of them actively engaging in their environments. It was heartwarming to see young ones born in the zoo itself. The variety of species is impressive, ranging from majestic polar bears and adorable red pandas to tiny, vibrant frogs—truly a jaw-dropping experience. It's a must-visit for all ages!
Great ZOO
Amazing, well managed and well maintained ZOO. You can find here a lot of interesting animals and a lot of other attractions for kids.
A huge, fantastic zoo in the heart of Copenhagen. Strongly recommended
Very large zoo in Copenhagen itself. The encloures were very large, but have many walkways so you can get very close to some animals. Highlights for us were the Polar Bears, they were swimming around in transparent pools so were easily visible and you could appreciate their size, strength and elegance: The elephants were also amazing, hearing the infrasound was enchanting. We spent several hours there, there is a lot so see and do and the prices for food were not outrageous as in most zoos. Signs in Danish and English were also very ingeresting and informative. We used our Copenhagen card, this is well worth it if our are planning on sightseeing as it includes entry to may attractions and free transport.
Charming zoo
Spent a day at the zoo with my mother. The animals and exhibits were were nice and I particularily enjoyed the panda section as they are my favorite animals. The zookeeper presentations I attended were also informative and engaging. Only downside was I felt there could be a bit more signage around the park as I found it difficult to know where everything was. We were also utilizing a wheelchair in the park and while it was mainly easy to get around in it, there were sections that were difficult or impossible to traverse with a wheelchair. The park is as such not fully accessible in a wheelchair sadly. Would keep this in mind if planning a visit.
Nice zoo, good way to spend the afternoon
Nice, compact zoo. Some of the cages are kind of dirty, but it was a nice way to spend a few hours with the kids. They were a bit tired of old castles and churches. It's an average+ zoo. The pandas were fun to see, especially since China recalled them from the US.
Weekend visit
Entry included with the Copenhagen Card. The Zoo is split into two parts with a tunnel beneath the main road to connect them. It was nice to visit a Zoo where the animal enclosures are set up slightly differently to the UK. Maybe it was because of the warm weather we had, but it was unusual that most animals were out & able to be seen . Didn't really allow enough time to do it full justice, but great all the same.
Best zoo
Must visit place with children.the best zoo i have visited.there are lot’s of animals to see.you can stay here for all day and children will have lots of fun.
Nice
Place is nice and lots of activities available. Nice animals and really organised on the path to take to see everything. I can say it is reeeealy a lot to walk but this is more like information. I cannot take it as disadvantage… some people like to walk 😃
Best Zoo Ever
This is hands down the best zoo we have ever visited. All the animals are content in their enclosures and they’re breeding which is a sign the animals here are thriving. Beautifully clean and well maintained. Loads of places to sit, have something to eat or drink and watch the animals. Absolutely wonderful. Would definitely recommend.
Quick stop on way to airport
We went on the way back to the airport so wanted to know if they had luggage storage, I called up to ask. They have different sized lockers which will fit most sizes of suitcase. They cost 10 krone, they needed coins but the staff let us pay on card and gave us the coins. It didn’t take us that long to walk round, it’s not massive but nice to spend a few hours.
City break
What a great few hours here..unfortunately not all enclosures had the animals in, but still plenty to see..very clean and well maintained, all animals had plenty of room In their enclosure and appeared to be happy..the separate part to the zoo across the road was an unusual aspect but worth a visit...
Good Views
We stopped in using the excellent value Copenhagen Card. It was very quiet on a chilly April weekday, which was nice. This zoo does the ‘big hitters’ well. Great views of tigers, lions, elephants, etc. We could see them all clearly. The star for us was the panda. It was a first for us despite the many other zoos we’ve been to. It’s worth stopping in, especially if you’ve got the card with entrance included.
Copenhagen Zoo
We have visited quite a few zoos and always tend to visit one when we travel. Have to say this was easily one of the best zoos we have been to. Surprisingly big given its central location. Nice and clean, seemed to be plenty of room for the animals, some of the themed areas were really impressive and there looked to be quite a lot of work going on to make it even better. It’s included on the CPH card which will get you in for no extra cost which is really good because it would otherwise definitely be worth the entry fee. Easy to get to from central Copenhagen. Would definitely recommend.
