A voir

Really enjoyable
My wife and I really enjoyed the museum. Van Gogh's paintings are very impressive and his life story is sad but interesting. We booked the earliest time slot available and got to the museum early to be front of queue. When we entered we went straight to the main paintings and had some minutes alone with them without crowds, which was great. Worth noting 2 of his most famous paintings are in other galleries, Starry Night and Terrace Cafe.

Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is a wonderful experience
Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is a wonderful experience. I learned so much more about his life than I knew before. Seeing the masterpieces are incredible. However, realize the Starry Night painting is not at this museum. That was a minor disappointment. It can be seen in NYC at the MoMA. Not here. The vast collection at this museum is amazing.

Van Gogh!
I had been at this museum almost 20 years ago. I think they redid the whole thing. It is set up in a way to teach you a lot about van Gogh. But surprisingly the paintings that people love most are not there! One of sunflowers, no irises, or night skies or cypress trees. Too crowded with too many people taking pictures of the pictures and selfies of themselves!

Ship to Van Gogh Museum!A Speed Tour!
We were in Amsterdam for a few hour visit while our ship was docked at the passenger cruise terminal on Liberation Day Sunday. We were determined to get to the Van Gogh Museum! Fortunately, we had pre-booked e-tickets with a 10:45 entry time, because all time slots were filled for Sunday and no further visitors were admitted. I’d also booked the audio guides, and we chose the 45 minute highlight tour of floors 0-3. A staircase or lift connects the floors. Docents can direct you to the specific paintings on each floor, but we just looked for the crowds in front of the artwork. We saw and listened to audio background and factoids on the Van Goghs we came to see: Sunflowers; Quinces, Lemons, Pears and Grapes; self-portraits; The Potato Eaters and more! Magnificent! “The Bedroom at Arles” was in the Matthew Wong exhibit; no special ticket needed, but we did need to enter that separate area of the museum. 45 minutes can cover the highlights if you have a strict time limit. This did not allow time to read the summaries in the galleries, or take in any additional works on display. We did get held up by visitors taking photos of the paintings or selfies in front of them. We bought the excellent soft cover “Masterpieces” of the collection to see what we sped by! From Cruise Ship Passenger Terminal, walk away from the ship to the ramp sidewalk that goes up to street level toward Centraal Station. There were at least 2 street signs with arrow toward Centraal Station. Follow sidewalk; lots of passengers going both directions with wheeled bags. Near station, cross street at light and walk under train track bridge and then cross toward station. This will take 10-15 minutes. Blue and white Tram 2or 12 arrive on outside tracks.Tap in at the driver’s door with your chip-enabled credit card, then tap out as you exit. Stops are announced and shown on interior sign. When the tram stops at the Museumplein stop, you are at the Van Gogh Museum! You will be in front of the Burger Room restaurant. Cross the tracks ( at crosswalk), follow sign to main entrance. Join queue outside. Enter, present ticket, phone or paper, go downstairs and obtain audio guide. Set your watch and begin 45 minute tour! Or stay all day for full tour! To get back to Centraal Station, exit museum, return to tracks in front, but stay on museum side of street, and watch for next Tram 2 or 12. Restrooms, gift shops and cafe on premises.

An amazing insight into Van Gogh’s life and his work
A beautiful dedication to one of the most inspiring artists. Amongst Van Gogh’s own works, there were letters between him and his brother and some works of his artist friends which were nice to see. I highly recommend booking long before you arrive in the Netherlands; it is near impossible to get a ticket even a week before you would like to go and they go very quickly. The shop staff at the gift shop on Museumplein were quite rude but the museum itself is a must see for any Van Gogh fan.

Good
The gallery/museum is well planned out and located. We bought tickets in advance as they sell out on the day and limited amount of people can enter. The paintings/art is good, not to my taste but you can appreciate the art. Tragic story of his life, fine line of genius and madness.

Beautiful Museum
This is a great museum, with a ton of pictures to see and information to learn about Van Gogh. Plan on spending 2-3 hours there. We did the audio tour which was good but VERY difficult to find the paintings to correspond to the audio. There was no rhyme or reason to the order ... except for the floor it was on.

Worth it If You’re a Van Gogh Fan. It you’re not, probably not worth the effort.
I’ve always found Van Gogh’s expressiveness fascinating and this museum celebrates that. I wouldn’t say the museum breaks any new ground. Especially if you’ve been to the museums in southern France. Of course this place has an incredible range and quality of his paintings but certainly some are missing. Still I loved the stories and interpretations of so many of his paintings and the museum putting the paintings he into interesting contexts. Don’t know about you, but I always feel guilty because when I see van Gogh paintings, I get happy due to the amazing expressiveness in original shapes and colors and ideas of his paintings. My favorite was a painting that people only saw after he had died and which he left realistic forms behind and the painting did not even seem abstract but rather pure imagination. I’ll post that one painting as you’ve probably seen all the rest.

Don’t miss this!
The museum has been completely reconfigured since I visited in 1997. The rooms are larger and accommodate the crowds well. I love the chronological organization. I missed seeing more Japanese prints that inspired him. Nice gift ship too. I wish the restaurant offered lunch. Great visit, though!

Great tribute to a great painter of our times
Such a memorable and inspiring visit to Van Gogh Museum. The museum which I booked a local tour totally worth it. He's unconventional , and lived a hard life. It depicts the history of VVG life and his works, showcasing his influence, his family and life. He's among the best painters of our times and the museum shown homage to his works. Kudos

Van Gogh Museum
The Van Gogh Museum is a must see in Amsterdam, as it houses the vast majority of his work from his beginnings as a painter through his last unfinished work.

Moving and beautiful!
If in Amsterdam you have to go to VanGoh. Just be aeare. Starry night is not here ! Buu all of his ither major works are plus you get to see a Gaugan as well! The entire museum is well done with a great audio tour that gets to the heart of Vincent. The museum is moving to say the least. Even if you knew nothing about the artist or art. You will leave with a sense of connection

Museum with biggest collection of Van Gogh paintings
Biggest collection of Van Gogh paintings under one roof, should be good enough reason for anyone to visit this museum. Unlike the nearby Rijksmuseum, this place is not huge but one can easily spend hours here enjoying the artworks. Tickets are available online only which comes with timeslot. Please make sure you book sufficiently in advance, booking opens six weeks in advance, since tickets can get sold out. Paintings are nicely presented with clear and detailed description. Temporary collections are worth checking out also. The museum do get crowded even with time slot restrictions. Had some food at the cafe but found it to be quite expensive.

Worth the visit!
The museum is wonderful. Van Gogh’s work, his life, his struggles and his insights are all masterfully captured in this incredible space. Take the time to visit and absorb it all. It will be a visit you will not forget!

Amazing second visit, but certainly not the last time!!
We visited Amsterdam for the second time SPECIFICALLY to visit Van Gogh Museum once again. It was totally worth it, and it won't be the last time for sure. It's such a great venue to enjoy so many amazing works of one of the greatest painters of all time in the world. This time it was more special to be able to enjoy the outstanding works of Matthew Wong as well. We spent hours exploring and taking photos, as we weren't allowed to do so last time we visited. Audio guide is highly recommended. A coffee break at the cafe was good, and all the souvenirs at the gift shops were great too. They offered many varieties of nice souvenir and gift items that you would want to stock up on.

Stunning Art in a Wonderful Venue. Do NOT miss this if you have even a mild interest in visual art.
Stunning art in a wonderful venue. The Matthew Wong temporary exhibition was the absolute highlight, with respect to Vincent. Worth every penny!

Excellent Opportunity to see Van Gogh
An excellent journey into the life and art of Van Gogh. A rare opportunity to view several of his original paintings. Loved using the audio tour option - explaining so much more. Also enjoyed the temporary exhibit of Matthew Wong from Edmonton Canada. Was very helpful to have access to free lockers.

Worth the visit!
Definitely worth it to see so many Van Gogh’s in one place. It is an easy museum to get through, not too large, and there are some interesting works from his peers.

Fantastic Van Gogh Museum tour by Rolf Laimböck
Rolf Laimböck provided a tour for my wife and I at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. He was extremely knowledgeable, and he was clearly an expert on Van Gogh and many other artists. We highly recommend Rolf to provide museum tours in Amsterdam.

Interesting way of telling Van Gogh's story
This is an immersive experience that tells Van Gogh's story through his paintings, letters and words of others. Be sure to get your tickets online ahead of time and opt for the audio tour.

Worth the visit
The museum is dedicated to educating about Van Gogh - his life, relationships, and contemporaries. It is well laid out and contains several key originals including The Almond Tree and Sunflowers. Also a few self portraits. It is interesting to learn that Van Gogh didn't start painting until age 27 and died 10 years later. An enjoyable way to spend several hours.

Great experience- book in advance!
Well worth a visit. Book early or you won’t get in. It’s a time slot system - which is good for keeping numbers manageable and allowing you to get close enough to see everything. Plenty of other things to see and do around the whole museumplein area with other museums, stalls and street food with seating nearby. For coffee or breakfast go to Blush across the road, just beside the tram stop. It’s a number 2 or 12 tram from the front of central station

Nice
This was a large building and felt too big for what was there. I loved that they had there famous paintings there that I recognized. It was nice inside. It is by other museums. They had a nice sized gift shop with lots of options.

Well Designed Van Gogh Art Museum!
A great treasure of all Van Gogh’s paintings! Highly recommend taking the audio tour to get more detailed description of all his popular paintings! We booked our entry time at 9am which was amazing to get in before the crowd! Very well designed art museum!

Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam
Exceptional museum! I was able to enjoy pieces I have never seen before. As with any popular site I recommend purchasing tickets in advance and aiming to arrive at first opening to avoid the crowds. One thing I did not appreciate was the locker system. You enter a code (very publicly) It is an interesting system, never seen one like it, there are certainly benefits to most of the system...but the way you add your code I did not find secure/safe because others can very easily see what your code is.

Well organized and informative
This museum is really well done. It tells the story of this unique artist and his struggles through his art and also unveils how he became a household name. The rooms flowed and kept the crowds moving. The audio guide was very informative and I recommend getting it.

Tutto perfetto, tranne le luci
I dipinti meritano mille stelle...belli, emozionanti, meravigliosi.

Worth the Cost of Admission
Amazing! Well done! Worth the cost of admission. Make sure to make your reservation as soon as tickets are available. We saw hundreds of people turned away while we waited for our timed entrance. We did the audio tour. It was worth the additional cost and really well done. It helped to guide you in the galleries. We took 2+ hours to get through the main collection. We could have used an additional hour to see the temporary exhibit. There were lockers to hold your belongings.

Mooie tentoonstelling
