Amsterdam City River Cruise
The canal cruise was perfect, the captin come guide gave us headphones to listen in our own language. The riverboat was clean and tidy, easy to walk on and off, it was a nice day and we got some beautiful pictures!! A great end to a fantastic tourist holiday!!
Early evening cruise
We did the early evening cruise to see the lights of the city. Easy to get tickets by turning up and allocated the next cruise. There is an audio link that you can use, but we decided to just sit outside and watch the views. An hour cruise which was interesting and pretty.
Great information finding cruise
We had an hour cruise around the canals in Amsterdam and learnt a lot whilst doing it. We really enjoyed every second. My five year old didn’t want to get off. The captain was also very knowledgeable.
A Must Try
This is a must do on your list of things to do while visiting Amsterdam. It takes you through areas that you may not be able to walk to. The captain points out things of interest and tells the story behind it.
Crociera easy
Crociera molto carina con guida in tutte le lingue. Partenza vicino ala stazione centrale. Durata circa un ora. Visita dei canali principali di Amsterdam. Da provare
A fab way to see Amsterdam
We had a really lovely time on the one-hour canal cruise. Our captain was very lovely and cracked a good few jokes throughout the tour. The GPS guided tour via the headphones was a fab idea and there were so many language options available which was a really pleasant surprise. We learned so much about the history of the city and the tour even helped us to find places to visit again in further detail after the tour. The price was extremely reasonable considering the excellent experience we got, and our boat even left a little early which was nice. All in all, we would definitely recommend it!
The captian made the experience
We really enjoyed it. We show I I amsterdam cards at the ticket office ans were on a boat and on our way within 10 minutes. Our captain (Tony I believe was his name) was lovely ,cheerful and very knowledge of the area, he also had 2 traniees with him and they were also lovely. The facilties were clean. If I hadn't have had the I amsterdam card I would have still paid what the price was (which I think is reasonable).
Well worth the experience
1st time in Amsterdam and loved it Booked on the Lovers Canal cruise early in the morning to get a feel for the city and to get our bearings The tour showed the highlights of the city and the comentry was good
Cruising backward :(
sitting backward is really annoying... Except that I think it is very nice and the captain was a nice guy, he was really funny, making jokes.
Go with Lovers
Booked through Get Your Guide literally 20 mins before boarding. They let us join a boat that was boarding as soon as we got there, which was great, no standing around as they weren’t so busy. We took a daytime trip and glad we did. Maybe evening cruises would be better in warmer months with open boats. The boat was modern, clean and warm and no condensation at all during any part of our cruise. The headphones were included and the audio commentary was interesting. The captain also added bits and pieces of extra info which was appreciated. It was a great introduction to the canals of Amsterdam as we decided to do this trip literally an hour after arriving in Amsterdam. It helped us with our bearings and with general historical info about the city. The reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is that we seemed to stay on one canal, no museums seen, no Anne Frank house, nothing like that, which was a shame as lots of tourists probably visit these places afterwards. Maybe the canal boat starting from the museums area take that route? We took the one from the station. There are lots of canal boat companies, but we were more than happy with Lovers as their boats appear a lot more modern than many others we saw. I would definitely recommend the cruise and my teenage daughter said it was one of the nicest things we did when in Amsterdam.
Great couples tour
A amazing tour with some great canal boat skills performed and a great host. This tour is very much for couples and being alone I felt a little out of place.
A Great Way To See The City
Done the open boat tour during the summer. A great way to see the city and the audio guide gave plenty of information along the way. Extremely relaxing to the point I almost fell asleep half way around. Would definitely do the tour again if I’m back in Amsterdam
Quick visit to see Amsterdam
Guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Although it rained, I still enjoyed the tour. The only complaint was the audio was difficult to hear at times.
Relaxing hour on the canals
Nice relaxing hour around the canals. Duco (sorry if I have not got the name correct) was informative with history and fun facts. Would recommend.
Good cruise
It was educational, slowed down at the right places. The pilot was polite and explained well- was fun and energetic.
Fint men mycket
Bra museum men stort. Audioguiden lite påfrestande. Specialutställningen var intressant. Rekommenderas.
Mycket folk men bra
Great Experience
If you are at all a fan of art you should go to the museum. There is a very well done audio guided tour. If you are looking into stopping at the museum then you are clearly into art and it is a must stop.
Glad we pre-purchased tickets
I’m so glad I secured our tickets before our trip as entry is limited. When we arrived at the museum there was a line of people who were being turned away as they did not have pre-purchased tickets. We bought the audio tour and were able to see everything on the tour list in about an hour. We really enjoyed all the works in the museum and you were able to freely take photographs of the paintings.
Absolutely fantastic
Fantastic museum. Incredible to get to see so many Van Gogh pieces, some great pieces that I had not seen before, as well as getting to see the famous ones such as Sunflowers. We had 10:15 entry and would recommend try go as early as you can to enjoy as much as possible without crowds. However I think could be enjoyed regardless. Once in can spend as long as you like. Free place to store bags. !!book tickets in advance!! 100% recommend when in Amsterdam.
Cambierei l'illuminazione
Visita organizzatissima, precisione nell'orario, audioguida interessante, ben gestita
Arte e natura
A dir poco emozionante. Meraviglioso
The quintessential Van Gogh experience!
It had been 10 years since our first visit to the Van Gogh Museum. And this time they allowed photography (no flash). We had reserved time-entry tickets in advance of our visit at 11am. It was a short line to enter into the atrium reception area. There are free lockers to stow any large bags, coats, etc. After getting settled, we made our way up to the galleries to enjoy some Van Gogh categorized as Self Portraits, Inspired by. Landscapes, Everyday Life, Artistic Flourishing, Artistic Exchange, Everything for Vincent, and more. We spent about 3 hours wandering about the galleries, taking in all of these Van Gogh works and learning more about him and his life and his family. It was so interesting to see a couple hundred works by Vincent!! And to learn more about how he worked, especially once he added colors so brilliant to his paintings! This museum is worth a visit, especially if you have the time to view and appreciate individual works! Be sure to take a break and visit the cafe for a beverage and some down time. And before we left, we took in the Anselm Kiefer exhibition to see how Kiefer has been influenced by Van Gogh. Interesting to see his large-scale works and their intersection with Vincent.
Superbe exposition
Great Audio Guide
I'm not a big art museum person but felt like visiting the Van Gogh museum while in Amsterdam was a must. We went with our two teenagers. It surpassed my expectations. The audio guide was very well done. Several tour options to choose from depending on your time and interest level (with something for young kids). We did the highlights tour and it was perfect. Touched on about 20 pieces, explaining how it related to his life and artistic style/evolution. We were there for about an hour which was just right for our level of interest and teenagers' attention span.
Great emotions for magnificent paintings
Our group of friends had selected the Van Gogh Museum as one of the must-see places in Amsterdam. For me, it was the second visit, probably more appreciated because we took the time to wander around the entire museum (audio guide around the neck but not constantly used). It takes half a day (we had chosen a morning, it's a good choice !) to see (or see again) many of the paintings of this great painter, including famous canvases. The tour is very well done and we follow the life story in parallel with the painter's journey. Great emotions for this unforgettable visit!
Sempre emozionante
Worth the trip
If you decide to come here, make sure you get your tickets well in advance. Also, we prepaid the audio tour, which is well worth it. There is a line for your time slot and then you go in and get your audio in English and we did the highlights Tours we were only there one full hour, and it was more than enough for us. We are not into museums. The highlights literally give you the highlights of the three floors of the museum. If you’re in Amsterdam, it’s a must. Our ticket included entrance into modern art across the alleyway, which we went into as well. Worth seeing.
A must visit in Amsterdam
A must visit for any art, history lovers or bucket list chasers! One of Holland’s most famous individuals, the museum hosts hundreds of paintings and drawings included several of his most famous. Allow some time to access the museum, it was a bit of faff getting in scanning the tickets, but once you’re in, highly recommending picking up one of the audio tours. They are extremely beneficial and less than 4 euros! Allow 1-2 hours for your visit, and take note it closes at 18:00. So make sure you book earlier if you don’t want to be rushed for time. There are three levels to visit, with stairs and lift access, so it’s very easy to get around and also wheelchair friendly. Easy to locate in Amsterdam as well and the ticket prices are affordable. Overall a great visit and a must if you’re visiting Amsterdam!
Excellent Museum
We forgot to get tickets in advance but found out from the security staff the museum releases a block of tickets online at 5 pm the day before, so we obtained the tickets that way. The museum tells the life story through van Gogh’s drawings and paintings. The displays are well laid out and although at times a bit crowded, the other guests were quiet and courteous. We spent 2.5 hours in the museum and additional artists displays. It was a moving visit.
Anselm Kiefer tentoonstelling
We Enjoyed It
We arrived early after visiting the Rikjksmuseum. We were about 2 hours early for our ticket time and were hoping they would let us in. I wasn’t feeling great and when I told the ticket taker she let us in early. We thought the building was interesting and the art was great. We did have to leave our small bag in a locker. When we went to retrieve it the machine would not work. Others were having problems as well. Turns out you have to use the machine that is directly in front of the locker you are using. It was frustrating to be sure. Staff were more pleasant than the other museums we visited. Every place we went was very busy. We were told the summer months are much worse. I think anyone visiting mostly anywhere in Amsterdam should get tickets in advance to avoid either not being able to get in or long waits. And it’s much hotter than April, so consider having to wait in the heat without an advance purchased ticket.
Great place for art lovers
For a Van Gogh Museum, it doesn't have too many Van Goghs. There's good art on display, from various artists, and the museum is quite large. They don't allow large bags in, and have convenient lockers available - free to use. The tickets seel out in advance, so make sure to pre-book. Thes gift shop inside is quite nice too.
Highly enjoyable afternoon
The Van Gogh exhibition is wonderful and vast. Tristan, our guide, was really engaging, friendly and gave such an interesting and entertaining tour. I got the most from my visit by taking this tour than I would have otherwise. I'm really pleased I went with this tour guide.
Van Gogh Museum Day
Unforgettable day at this museum. Enjoyable time, timed entry made it easy. Loved learning about this artist. Great time
Must Visit While In Amsterdam
Whatever level of art lover you are, this museum is worth a vist. One can take a private tour, but you can also rent an audioguide and tour the museum at your leisure. You can pick a complete tour or highlight tour on the audioguide, it has to do with your interest and time available. Great modern building, BEAUTIFUL art, not just Van Gogh. Do reserve entry time before you go, they are strict.
Fantastic Museum
A fantastic museum. Now I'm no art buff but this place was fascinating to learn about Van Gogh and his life. He did so many paintings! Not too busy and I would recommend the audio tour as well as that's really good. Great place to visit.
Great museum!
Fantastic museum. Just the right size. Great set up and lay out. Lovely shop. We loved our experience here and learned a lot.
Well worth it.
We pre-booked this experience as many others were already booked up. It was a good visit we chose to do the audio tour and had the option to go at your own pace. There was a bit of queuing but not too long. It was well worth doing the audio tour as I could follow the tour at my own pace because I don’t walk very fast. There were lifts and escalators because the exhibition is on 3 floors. The only let down was a very rude man who didn’t have time to hand out the devices and explain how to use them! He was rushing people through. Be aware you are not allowed to take large bags with you and there is a handbag check. But on the whole was good value.
Van Gogh museum
Great museum. Glad I go the ticket in advanced and it was for the opening time. I got to see the art before the museum got super crowded. The museum had a lot of Van Gogh art and it is a must. The only thing I did not like was that the start of the line was not marked and the line of tourists that queue at the door before the museum opened, was not considered when they moved us to the correct place.
Great but phone cameras spoil
Beautiful building, airy and very clean. Collection is stunning, with accessible interesting information. Only downside is many pictures are blocked by people taking lengthy rounds of photos/selfies. It would be great if popular galleries like this would consider having phone-free sessions for people who just want to look at the pictures.
Nice museum
I went to visit amsterdam with friends so we had to see the van gogh museum. We already had tickets that we purchased on the website because we heard it was full almost everyday so we didn’t wait to much. We discovered a lot on information about van gogh and his life.
Incontournable
My husband and I enjoyed it very much!! Well Recommended. Easy to get around . It was wonderful to appreciate his art from the early years and the transformation in his art. Magnificent
Life lessons from Van Gogh
My daughter and I learnt so much about Van Gogh, and my respect for him as an artist and human being has deepened. There are many profound life lessons here and van Gogh’s letters are as interesting as his art. We didn’t go on a guided tour, we used the headphones with recorded information. We spent about two hours on the museum and 15 minutes in the gift shop where we picked up some beautiful Van Gogh souvenirs. Kids under 18 enter for free when accompanied by a parent or caregiver. I didn’t know this and bought a ticket for my daughter (which could not be refunded).
A Masterpiece of a Museum
The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is a breathtaking journey through the mind and work of one of the most iconic artists in history. From the moment you walk in, you’re immersed in Vincent’s vibrant palette, emotional depth, and evolving technique. The layout takes you chronologically through his life, which makes it feel like you’re witnessing his personal and artistic transformation in real time. Seeing masterpieces like Sunflowers, The Bedroom, and Almond Blossom in person is a surreal experience the texture and brushstrokes add a dimension no print can replicate. But what makes the museum truly exceptional is how it goes beyond the art. Letters between Van Gogh and his brother Theo are displayed throughout, offering a deeply human look at his struggles, inspirations, and hopes. The museum is modern, well-organized, and easy to navigate, with helpful audio guides and informative plaques that enhance the storytelling without overwhelming you. Despite its popularity, the space flows well, although booking a timed ticket online is a must.
Great museum visit, lots to learn from Vincent
Well curated with an interesting audio guide. Such a beautiful setting in downtown Amsterdam. Gladly they limit the crowds because it’s very popular, we went early which I think helped with the crowds.
Prebook tickets AND audio guide!
Exhibits themselves are very good. An excellent display of beautiful art, but very busy! However, although we had pre booked tickets (it was sold out on our visit), we had not pre booked the audio guide, believing we could book at the museum. We were refused to buy the guide, despite it being advertised and standing in line, as they were only giving them to pre booked guests. At no point were we made aware that we wouldn’t be able to get these on the day. This was very disappointing and made us feel that we did not get as much out of the experience as we could have. By all means make the audio guide pre book only - but please advertise the fact at the point of booking on your website (or make it clear that you may not be able to buy on the day)!
Good museum, must visit in Amsterdam
Bought (for specific date and time) tickets on the museum's webpage, this is advisable as it gets very crowded Lots and lots of information and of course paintings arranged chronologically Museum shop, cloakroom on site
Nicely laid out museum
This museum is laid out in an ingenious way so that you travel through at a good pace. Not only are Van Gogh's works displayed, the works of contemporaries of his are also displayed. I got the audio tour, but I do not recommend it unless you are interested in Van Gogh as a person, what drove him and what he thought (very snobbish about peasants ). If you are interested in the art only, the audio tour is not necessary. The museum does get crowded, and it is primarily caused by selfie takers and content creators and they are quite obnoxious. Do not let them block art you are trying to see while they pose away.
Excellent museum
Highly recommend this museum. I felt I learned a lot about artist, his life and saw many works of art. I went with an excellent touring company called “loving Vincent” that I would highly recommend. I got last minute tickets luckily. My only recommendation would be that the museum have a small number of last minute tickets available 1 week and 48 hours ahead of time so more can enjoy.
Always excellent
I always love the Van Gogh museum and I love how they change things around inside. His hand drawings and his Japanese art certainly are the most interesting to me. It’s amazing how he changed his styles over the years. A must see in Amsterdam.
Excellent museum
Visited with my husband on our 1st afternoon in Amsterdam, Sun 6th April at 2pm, we'd booked our tickets a few weeks beforehand through Easyjet, our holiday provider, through a company called Musement. We only had to queue a short time & were pleased they let us straight in although we were about half an hour early ! It said that the tickets for that day were sold out so I recommend always booking them well in advance to ensure you can get in. The museum is well laid out, each floor displays Van Gogh's paintings at each stage of his life together with paintings of other artists that influenced him at that time & his life story in segments. You can hire audio guides but we didn't bother, we just wanted to enjoy his paintings ourselves. It was wonderful to see the paintings of Sunflowers, Irises, the Bedroom at Arles, various self- portraits, Almond Blossoms etc so close up. Yes it was busy but not enough to put us off. While visiting this museum you are near the Rijksmuseum, we only visited the cute garden there with playful fountains & a row of food & souvenir stalls just past, we had a delicious hot waffle with cream sat outside in the sun ! A special experience to see so many Van Gogh paintings in 1 place.
