Museo a cielo aperto

Unique and engaging experience
One of the best attractions we visited in Stockholm. It covers quite a large area, there is a lot of Swedish heritage and cultural artefacts to see and experience. It creates somewhat immersive experience with a lot of historical details and touches. The zoo area was quite enjoyable as well, although it wouldn't usually be my sort of thing, but not this time - it felt almost like seeing the animals in their natural habitat rather than a zoo. The most amazing touch was the picnic area where you could even do your own BBQ or buy freshly prepared traditional Swedish dishes.

Great day out!
Me and my bf had a lovely trip to Skansen. It is easy to get to by the tram line. Loved the old buildings showing the traditional way of life in Sweden, although lots of them were closed when we visited. Make sure to check out the view, as there's an incredible view of the city in the back left corner. A nice variety of Nordic animals outside to see, lots were asleep but still visible. The bears were so cute and looked very happy. We managed to get quite close to the reindeers as they were eating at the time. The star of the show for us though was the African animals and reptile area/aquarium. You have to pay extra to enter this area but it is definitely worth it! The tiny marmosets were the best part for me, incredibly inquisitive and sweet. The African area also has a great monkey enclosure with lots of baby monkeys, and the meerkat enclosure you can get up very close to them. The aquarium was incredible, with massive crocodiles, and amazing fish to see. Lots of snakes on show as well, and you can even touch a snake and tarantula. The Baltic museum bottom floor looked incredible, with a walkthrough tunnel and lots to learn about. The upstairs area included more informative, educational areas. Great trip overall!

Lovely Day Out!
Had an absolutely wonderful day at Skansen. It is advertised as an open air museum with restored and saved buildings from around Sweden. There are plenty of buildings dotted around the site to look at and some you can go in. We visited on a weekend and many of the town buildings were open to go in (specifically the old amenities shop, glass makers, bakers, iron monger and iron shop). I can understand why some reviews are annoyed that a lot of the buildings are closed or don’t have ‘actors’ or info givers. However, if you visit during the week and in off season what do you expect?! There were plenty of ‘info givers’ in costume dotted around and the lady in the Old amenities shop was very clear they were not actors but simply there to give information about the building and blend in. There were also tours throughout the day guiding you around the buildings and giving info. Some buildings appear shut but if you go up to the door and try it you can go in for a look (to those complaining take some initiative and try the door handle…) The experience also advertised a zoo where visitors can see animals from around Sweden - this was a lovely experience seeing reindeer (defiantly attend the reindeer talk at 1230!) brown bears, Lynx and Moose! This was a lovely part of the day. Overall, I really enjoyed Skansen and think those complaining need to do better research about what you are paying to get into - website clearly states that it’s a mixed experience and if you visit on the off season expect there to not be as many buildings open with info givers. Only criticism is there isn’t a great amount of food options.

Worth it of you have the time
Really interesting and some of the workshops were really impressive. Gifts or merchandise were expensive which was disappointing as you would expect the products to be cheaper if all produced or made within the local area. Not too busy but didn't manage to see everything so would recommend you book out half a day minimum. Really worth the money

Well worth a visit.
Lovely open air museum. Lots to see and great for children. The Nordic zoo was a bonus, with moose and brown bears. There was also a lovely children's zoo. The views across Stockholm were also fab and it was good value for money. My only complaint was that the shop/houses shut so early (3pm) we missed out on trying the bakery goods and seeing some of the demonstrations (glass blowing etc) The actual park remained open so you could still walk around it but it was a little disappointing. If you're going to visit, get there early to make the most of it all.

Open air museum
I visited during a cold January day. It was quiet and half of the buildings were closed to tourists. However I still enjoyed the snowy and calm setting - it's very fitting for Sweden.

A must do if you like history and animals
Had the best time here. I'd been there in 2019, however now an aquarium and zoo. Worth on a dry or rainy day. The guys in the glass works were amazing, so friendly and passionate about what they do. This place is fantastic, you get a history through time. Just terrific!

Totally Worth It
We spent almost the whole day here. From the Xmas lights to the beautiful art performance, everything is interesting. And we finished with the hot dog, eating around an outdoor firepit. Wish we were here in a sunny and warm day, maybe we will be back in summer.

Winter Lights + short visit
We visited in December, but unfortunately missed the Christmas market. We bought tickets ahead of time for the Winter Lights at an early time, paired with admission to Skansen in general. We got there later than planned, but Skansen was still open - however we couldn't scan our tickets to get in, we had to wait in line at the 1 open window for admission which was odd. We walked back to see the Nordic animals which was very cool. There were two stores open on our walk there, but closed by the time we walked back for Winter Lights. Winter Lights was very cool! The music and the lights were great. There was a couple booths at the start and then throughout the walk - but they were all the exact same things offered, so you only need to look at one of them. Great that the big Skansen gift shop was still open when we left!

Lovely Walk Around
Came here on our first morning in Stockholm. We had a lovely walk around, visiting the different traditional buildings and speaking to the workers. We had an in depth conversation with the carpenter in the furniture factory about the different types of veneer he uses to craft his masterpieces. We watched the boys hard at work making and blowing glass. We also had a hot chocolate by the outdoor fire which was a lovely moment. A highlight was seeing the reindeer, moose, wild boar and lynx in the snow. It was a shame the brown bear was in hibernation, but these things can't be helped. An interesting place.

Amazed this doesn’t rank higher on tripadvisor, great place to visit, highly recommend for a day out.
Visited for the Christmas market, however really enjoyed looking around the whole site which was photogenic in the snow. Wished I’d allowed more time for the visit. Also had good views of the city, a chance to see reindeer and moose, listen to traditional music and see traditional Swedish dancing, make candles, and try lots of things at the market.

Swedish Christmas
We spent about 4-5 hours here on a snowy December day. The whole place felt a little run down but we enjoyed the authentic Swedish vibe. The Christmas market was pretty, everything is expensive (but that’s Stockholm!) but we managed to have some glogg and a few interesting Swedish delicacies which was fun. We enjoyed the Nordic animal exhibit - we saw moose, a snow fox and reindeer amongst others. The music and dancing around the tree was fun to watch and the little fires to sit around and warm up were pretty and felt very Swedish.

Awesome! A must! Best thing to do!!!
Absolutely amazing place, a must for Stockholm. A wide range of activities from visiting and seeing how people lived, cooked, animals, gardens, food, views, zoo, aquarium, feeding animals. We came two times and stood 4 and 5 hours respectively. We do not think the 1-2 hour visit suggestion is realistic unless you chose something to see only.

Autumn colour
Skansen is no doubt best visited in the warmer months when all the attractions and eateries are open. But even on a cold wet day in October it was still a pleasure to walk around this open air museum and zoo. And the upside in visiting at this time, is the riot of autumn colour which looks so beautiful set against the historic buildings and city backdrop. Most of the buildings (which include workshops, homes and shops) are original and each has a sign board out front explaining where it originated and how it fits into Swedish social history. We enjoyed seeing animals native to Sweden including brown bears, reindeer, a lynx and wolverine. The tea shop we visited was charming and the gift shop was great.

Sehr empfehlenswert. Besonders auch das Aquarium. Wunderschöne Anlage. Auf dem Marktplatz gibt es gute Würste.

Great place!
I have been to Skansen in the end of October and it was amazing. The area of the Skansen is enormous, so if you are going to visit it, be prepared to spend there at leats 2-3 hours. Skansen also has a great ZOO. Atmophere there in October is just special.

Bigger than expected
I didn't research this before heading in. I think i was in the off season because some things inside were not open etc. Pleasantly surprised to have nordic animals/zoo inside. Wished i came a week later for winter lights or earlier in season to see all of the things open.

Fun & informative day with friends
We were with 4 adults and had a great day. We learned a lot about how people in Sweden lived in the 17th & 18th century. It was very pleasant to walk around the meandering paths and see the animals and there were well priced snacks/lunch like burgers and hot dogs and drinks like coffee, hot chocolate and warm wine. We had a really enjoyable day. And if you have kids you should definitely go. It was a kid’s heaven: animals, playgrounds and lots of space to run around.

Outdoor Empfehlung

Weekend at Sztockholm
We had a "City go" (tourist card) so we decided to go there, the staff was helpful, a lot of animals, a bit of history, but the only downside is that not everywhere in this place you can enter with "City Go" (you have to pay extra). After that, I recommend it to everyone ;)

Molto bello
Museo molto bello.

Loved it!
Really loved it! Entry price very reasonable as there is so much to see and do! Perfect for kids, adults and everyone. There’s lots of animals, an aquarium and all of the old period houses, shops and more! It was so great to see, very informative too. The staff were also friendly and helpful too. We really had a brilliant day out and would definitely return soon! There’s lots for kids to do too. It’s quite hilly though, which was fine for us but maybe not for others.

Historisch, verassend, boeiend, aangenaam, genieten

Bear with me...
You get a lot of experience for your SEK. No wonder the locals supported this long-established attraction when the pandemic threatened its viability. It incorporates rescued buildings showing Sweden's variety of mainly rustic architecture, plus local fauna - including bears which had a decent-sized stimulating environment - and also some living-history interactive experiences, such as a pottery, ironmongers and milk shop. Even saw red-squirrel which would be rare in England. All in all, a beloved local treasure and informative tourist attraction.

Great for all ages
Such a great day at Skansen with so many different things to do and see! The botanical centre is really interactive and fun. There is an extra cost for the aquarium/exotic animals but was so worth it - take a walk amongst monkeys and see snakes and all sort of creatures. We even got to touch a snake and a tarantula! The rest of the park is stunning, where you can see more animals such as bears and lynxes. The village section is really interesting and immersive as well.

Skansen was interesting
Skansen was pretty good. Easily reachable by tram or bus. It's also fairly close to the Vasa, Nordic, and Viking museums. The price of admission is decent. It was fun to walk around and see the old buildings and actors dressed up in period clothing. We had coffee and a snack at an old-style cafe on the grounds. It was also fun to see the area with the Nordic animals-reindeers etc. We just happened to be there at the time that a free tour was given in English of the house of the Tottit family, the richest merchant/family of that time. The tour was about 45 minutes, was very interesting and informative and worth the time. If you happen to be there when the tour is given, it is well worth it. this tour may have been the highlight of our visit to Skansen.

Wonderland
What a wonderland, especially for families with little kids--though I think people of all ages and with or without kids would enjoy it, too, if they're interested in learning about the region's history, or even just in seeing animals, as there's a Nordic zoo that's home to moose, bears, lynxes (we even saw three little lynx kittens), and more. There's also a stage/live music, a playground, a petting zoo, an aquarium, a science center, and more. The views from Skansen are beautiful as well. It's just a fantastic place all around. There's a lot to see and experience, and half a day was not nearly enough for us (though that's all we could manage), so I definitely recommend a full day if you have the time.
