Sehr interessantes, toll gestaltetes Museum.

We booked our tickets online approximately a week before our visit, which was smart because it was sold out the day that we visited otherwise. We recommend visiting first thing when the museum opens to avoid the crowds. This museum has lots of great art as well as tells the story of VanGogh's life. His famous Sunflowers painting is here as well as his last unfinished painting before his death. Plan for a couple of hours for this museum. I was expecting to not enjoy this museum thinking it would be too much of the same thing over and over, but I found it quite enjoyable and enjoyed the descriptions and narrative of his life along the way.

I was fascinated by the art collection at the Van Gogh Museum. If you'd like to visit it purchase your tickets at least 2 weeks in advance. They were sold out when I arrived in Amsterdam. I was able to get in only because they release some tickets at 5pm for the next day but they get sold very fast. I got lucky!

We had entry tickets for 9 am entry. We had purchased the audio guide with our ticket but you can buy at the counter if you didn't include in your entry ticket. The audio guide was good. There are obviously many VanGogh paintings, and a variety of paintings from his friends and people whose work influenced his. We also found the special exhibit on Matthew Wong very interesting (it's there thru Sept 1) as he was influenced by VanGogh but his work is different. He also tragically ended his life at a young age. Included with your ticket

Meraviglioso museo, ottimamente organizzato e gestito.

Wonderful museum. Did not include self guided tour audio. We had to pay an additional amount. Van Gogh museum is beautiful and has many pieces of art.

We arrived around 11am. The queue was not long. Staff are nice. The audio is well designed. It also provides extra information. To put bags in the closets you just need to choose a pin and a simble. Better take a picture of your closet so you won’t forget the number.

Really enjoyed this, we booked a few weeks before coming to Amsterdam, it’s in a good area in the museum quarter with plenty going on around it. The exhibition itself was really good, great seeing the paintings and learning about Van Gogh, liked how it was laid out, the different floors were different eras of his life, and you can see the difference in his paintings. My only criticism is how busy it was, so you’re often stood around waiting for people to move so you can see the painting and read the writing next to it. So it didn’t flow aswell because of that. But it was very enjoyable and glad we did it.

Amazing day here. Allow 4-5 hours. Loved everything about it including the temporary exhibition, which we thought we'd quickly nip into at end, then spent at least another hour in it. I liked the self guided audio tour to help convey the story behind the art. Great to have a decent restaurant in it too.

We pre booked our tickets from the UK we were glad we did as they were sold out on day. We had early tickets so no queues, no interaction from staff and we just wandered round as unless had audio guide you were left to it. The art is amazing and his life sad and fascinating. The museum is clean and well presented. We enjoyed the cafe and sunflower biscuits and the shop was lovely too, can't fault it a must when in Amsterdam.

We were absolutely blown away by the Van Gogh Museum during our visit to Amsterdam. The museum presents a great showcase of Van Gogh’s life, experiences and achievements through his paintings and artist friends. Unmissable when in Amsterdam.

What a wonderful museum... the art is inspiring and the layout is perfect with a lot of space between paintings so that your never feel crowded. It was incredible feeling to be surrounded by such beautiful art.

This is an excellent museum. Real insight into Van Gogh, so much artwork of his I had never seen, and it wasn't too crowded.

There is selected wait times of every 15 minutes or so. We booked an audio tour and all you have to do is grab this screen thingy and included headphones and select from 5 tours around the facility. The facility is big with washrooms scattered around. It is very fun and you get to know about Van Goghs paintings!

The museum is super!! We spent 3 hours in the museum.. the kids loved the treasure hunt and they even got free stickers and post cards. the tickets are sold out but I tried to check online at 6pm the day before, they open a lot of slots and got the tickets. Children 18 and below are free but needs tickets. Must visit in Amsterdam, the story and life of van Gogh is amazing.

This museum was extremely inspiring and moving. It really is a testament to the love that Vincent Van Gogh had for his brother and his family, despite his struggles with mental illness. Seeing classic Van Gogh in the museum created by his nephew, Vincent, was very special and memorable. We also enjoyed the Matthew Wong exhibit. Wong was inspired by Van Gogh and also had mental health struggles. His artwork includes pieces that refer to Van Gogh works.

No matter if you like painting or not. You can feel each painting by Vincent Van Gogh is full of his life energy on the painting. I do not understand each painting well. However, a self-portrait can inspire you with its use of colour and the combination of different painting skills. The staffs were friendly and helpful. However, please reserve a ticket for at least one week during summertime.

This was my third visit to the Van Gogh Museum, but the first time back in 20 years. It is still just as enjoyable as I remember - though FAR more crowded. We visited in late May and had purchased our tickets about 6 weeks in advance and had plenty of times/days to choose from. We did see several people who had not pre-purchased their tickets, get turned away as the museum was sold out for the day (we visited on a Sunday morning). I had read a few recommendations (maybe in the TA forums?) to start the visit on the top floor and work your way down to try to avoid the worst of the crowds. We arrived about an hour after opening and I'm not sure that starting at the top made any difference in crowd size. Since the museum is laid out in chronological order, you may want to stick to the traditional bottom to top path if it's your first time visiting or want to see the evolution of Van Gogh's work. While I thought I was prepared for the crowds, I was not prepared for the amount of jostling from people trying to take photos of the artwork or selfies with the artwork. It makes sense to me if you see a piece that you really like, that you want to make sure you remember (and remember the name), but many people just seemed to be taking photos of each piece as if they were checking off a list. Despite the crowds, the artwork is superb and you can get close enough to really examine the brush strokes. There was a special exhibition of paintings by Matthew Wong while we were visiting, and all of us enjoyed seeing his work very much (a few Van Gogh's were sprinkled throughout that part of the gallery as well). A word of note, in case you're not aware, Starry Night is not in this museum, but can be found in New York at the Museum of Modern Art. I would highly recommend making sure you visit this museum if you are in Amsterdam!

Amico Vincent, grazie. Sempre. Casa tua, il tuo Museo, è bellissima come te.

Lovely experience I loved the exhibitions, especially the Face to Face exhibition. Did not need the audio guide or personal guide to have a fantastic time. The information provided was comprehensive and eye-opening. Some attempts at inclusivity - like a touch-smell-feel station for the blind was highly appreciated. The gift shop was amazing - filled with many various things you actually want. The café had amazing fries but very high prices.

We had toured this museum during a visit to Amsterdam 21 years ago. Since then they have tripled the size of the museum and added paintings and stories from relatives and artists who related to Van Gough during his lifetime. It was really interesting to see some wonderful painting by artists that inspired him and he tried to emulate. And of course, the stars of the museum were the abundant number of Van Gough paintings. The sunflowers really are magical in person. My brother and I had a delicious lunch at the museum which was a very flavorful chicken stew with a pastry top. I appreciated the final comment on his life that he was an artist with a vision and didn’t just paint the vision of a crazy person.

Came here on Saturday 29th June for a pre booked visit - if you are planning to visit the Van Gogh you MUST pre book your tickets via the official website and you cannot turn up on the day and buy tickets which I did see a few people trying to do so. Arrived around 20 minutes before we were supposed to be allowed in but the friendly gentleman at the entrance said we were fine to go in. Paid €3.75 for an audio experience which in my opinion was well worth it, it enhanced the experience for me personally and allowed me to learn more about the artist. It was busy but it was a Saturday afternoon so it was to be expected. Not a problem but have to say the amount of young girls thinking they are models and pouting and pushing their arses out for selfies in front of the paintings is just downright tacky and it was tragic really. But that’s down to them and not something that the museum have any control over! 😂 Back to the museum, an absolutely outstanding collection and so many beautiful paintings. Stunning collection and I took over two hours looking at all of van goghs works. There are three souvenir shops and they are well stocked and cater to all languages I was really impressed and came away armed with loads of goodies! If you are in Amsterdam you must visit this museum it is well worth the price and it has left me with so many happy memories thank you to all the friendly and helpful staff you are brilliant and credit to you all for what you do.

Van Gogh Museum - 27/06/2024 This place is incredible. A must visit for anyone travelling to Amsterdam. Best to get tickets before hand online before you go. I went during the Exhibition Matthew Wong, two very talented artists who left us way too soon.

This museum does a wonderful job of telling the Van Gogh story. The signs are all in English and Dutch, so helpful. Part of our group of 5 did the audio highlights tour, other half did nothing, just read. I did not do the audio tour and felt like I got enough of it. My daughter, 25, did the tour and said she was glad she did.
Shamaal
The Shamaalina was interested in Van Gogh and we were in Amsterdam so what the heck. We retained a private guide from the tour company Vincent Lovers and it turned out to be an excellent choice. The museum itself is laid out in chronological order and emphasizes Van Gogh's contemporaries who influenced his evolving style. As this was not immediately apparent until our guide explained it, there may be some initial confusion when following the museum. Our guide was focused on Van Gogh's and how his style evolved as he was influenced by others. A caution to those with teens, Van Gogh frequented brothels and consorted with prostitutes and this greatly affected his work. In typical Dutch fashion this is not sugar-coated with euphemisms like girlfriends or partners. In a fit of despair he eventually took his own life outside in a field.

A must-experience museum. What a moving tribute to the life of an artist who left the world way too young. His sister-in-law gave the world a gift when she preserved Van Gogh's work in Amsterdam.

My experience was made possible by the concierge at the Hotel Okura, as all tickets were supposedly "sold out". The facility is clean (like all of Amsterdam), and the exhibits are fantastic. Although Van Gogh remains one of my favorite artists, I did not know that many of his early works were dark in color, and even some of the seashore. Upon viewing all of the art, I realized how great an artist he really was. I have a print of one of the farm originals on display, and its vividness became even more impressive. This was truly one of the highlights of my time in Amsterdam, and I have had my enthusiasm rekindled in Van Gogh's works.

We spent 4 hours inside with my brother. It is a fantastic experience for art lovers. Each drawing has an amazing story behind it. You can sit in the middle of galeries and watch and look at the details of the drawings. Ambiance was fantastic. We visited on 2008 and each time when I go to Amsterdam I would like to go there. The surrounding also so nice. If the weather is good you can lay down to the grass and have some sunbathe. Enjoy 😉

A must see for any impressionism lover. Exciting to see masterpieces in person, and the audio tour allows the viewer to hear the background of many of the pieces. The special exhibition is worth taking time viewing. What I truly appreciated was the significant work by artists that Van Gogh influenced. By looking at their pieces, one can also see their impact upon Van Gogh.

At the exhibition the works were grouped according to various aspects. I didn't think that I will find so many pictures of Van Gogh there. It was wonderful to see the paintings in their original form. You could learn a lot about the life of Van Gogh too.

Visiting the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam was an enriching and deeply inspiring experience for my family and me. As avid admirers of Vincent van Gogh’s artistry, we were eager to immerse ourselves in the world of this visionary painter. Here’s a detailed review of our visit: Pre-Visit Expectations Before our visit, we anticipated encountering Van Gogh’s iconic paintings, including "Starry Night," "Sunflowers," and "The Bedroom." We expected to delve into his tumultuous life journey and artistic evolution through the museum’s comprehensive collection. Arrival and Entrance Arriving at the Van Gogh Museum, we were struck by its modern architecture and welcoming atmosphere. The ticketing process was efficient, and the staff provided us with insightful tips for navigating the museum’s galleries. The layout was well-designed, guiding us through Van Gogh’s life and works chronologically. Art and Exhibits Our journey through the museum began with Van Gogh’s early works and moved chronologically through his artistic career. Each gallery showcased a diverse array of paintings, sketches, and personal correspondence, offering a profound insight into Van Gogh’s creative genius and emotional depth. Highlights and Impressions Masterpieces Up Close: Viewing Van Gogh’s masterpieces in person was a transformative experience. "Starry Night" mesmerized us with its swirling colors and profound symbolism, while "Sunflowers" radiated with vibrant hues. Personal Insights: The museum’s presentation of Van Gogh’s personal letters and sketches provided intimate glimpses into his thoughts, struggles, and artistic aspirations. These insights humanized the artist and deepened our appreciation for his works. Interactive Elements: The museum incorporated interactive displays and multimedia exhibits that engaged visitors of all ages. Virtual tours and educational activities for children made the visit educational and interactive. Family-Friendly Amenities The Van Gogh Museum catered well to families. Facilities such as family-friendly audio guides, interactive workshops, and designated areas for kids allowed our children to explore Van Gogh’s art in a fun and accessible way. The museum’s gift shop offered a variety of souvenirs and books suitable for all ages. Visitor Experience Crowd Management: Despite its popularity, the museum managed crowds effectively, allowing us ample space and time to appreciate each artwork. The flow through the galleries was smooth and unhurried. Educational Value: The museum’s informative signage and audio guides provided comprehensive explanations of Van Gogh’s artworks, techniques, and the historical context in which he worked. This enhanced our understanding and enriched our experience. Conclusion Our visit to the Van Gogh Museum was an unforgettable journey into the mind and art of one of history’s most influential painters. It offered a blend of artistic brilliance, personal narrative, and cultural significance that resonated deeply with our family. The museum’s dedication to preserving Van Gogh’s legacy in a captivating and accessible manner made it a highlight of our time in Amsterdam. One of the best museums I've been to - by far the best collection of the artist's work and so many of his most famous paintings. The building is large and airy however because of what is shown here it is a very busy place. The museum does its best to control the crowds but do not expect a quiet visit. The only downsides are on the practice side. The lockers for storing bags are a good idea, however the execution seems a bit more complicated than it needs to be. On a touch screen you need to think of a 6-digit code, then select an icon picture from choice of many, then get given a locker number to store you bag in. You have to remember to make a note/take a photo of each of these details in order to retrieve your bag. The system in the Stedelijk was much easier. Also, it's impossible to get near the most famous paintings as each one is surrounded by people taking photos at every possible angle rather than taking in the art first hand. Not a fault of the museum - I guess this is the same for all museums that contain top level art. The irony being, they won't remember seeing the art despite taking numerous photos of each one.

Well worth the visit. No need to be early for your time slot. They will not let you in until the clock outside shows your time. So many people waited in line only to be turned away to get back in line a short time later. Make reservations weeks in advance of your visit.
