Kiefer: Eine Ausstellung in den Van Gogh & Stedelijk Museen
Vom 7.

Amsterdam City River Cruise
The canal cruise was perfect, the captin come guide gave us headphones to listen in our own language. The riverboat was clean and tidy, easy to walk on and off, it was a nice day and we got some beautiful pictures!! A great end to a fantastic tourist holiday!!
Early evening cruise
We did the early evening cruise to see the lights of the city. Easy to get tickets by turning up and allocated the next cruise. There is an audio link that you can use, but we decided to just sit outside and watch the views. An hour cruise which was interesting and pretty.
Great information finding cruise
We had an hour cruise around the canals in Amsterdam and learnt a lot whilst doing it. We really enjoyed every second. My five year old didn’t want to get off. The captain was also very knowledgeable.
A Must Try
This is a must do on your list of things to do while visiting Amsterdam. It takes you through areas that you may not be able to walk to. The captain points out things of interest and tells the story behind it.
Crociera easy
Crociera molto carina con guida in tutte le lingue. Partenza vicino ala stazione centrale. Durata circa un ora. Visita dei canali principali di Amsterdam. Da provare
A fab way to see Amsterdam
We had a really lovely time on the one-hour canal cruise. Our captain was very lovely and cracked a good few jokes throughout the tour. The GPS guided tour via the headphones was a fab idea and there were so many language options available which was a really pleasant surprise. We learned so much about the history of the city and the tour even helped us to find places to visit again in further detail after the tour. The price was extremely reasonable considering the excellent experience we got, and our boat even left a little early which was nice. All in all, we would definitely recommend it!
The captian made the experience
We really enjoyed it. We show I I amsterdam cards at the ticket office ans were on a boat and on our way within 10 minutes. Our captain (Tony I believe was his name) was lovely ,cheerful and very knowledge of the area, he also had 2 traniees with him and they were also lovely. The facilties were clean. If I hadn't have had the I amsterdam card I would have still paid what the price was (which I think is reasonable).
Well worth the experience
1st time in Amsterdam and loved it Booked on the Lovers Canal cruise early in the morning to get a feel for the city and to get our bearings The tour showed the highlights of the city and the comentry was good
Cruising backward :(
sitting backward is really annoying... Except that I think it is very nice and the captain was a nice guy, he was really funny, making jokes.
Go with Lovers
Booked through Get Your Guide literally 20 mins before boarding. They let us join a boat that was boarding as soon as we got there, which was great, no standing around as they weren’t so busy. We took a daytime trip and glad we did. Maybe evening cruises would be better in warmer months with open boats. The boat was modern, clean and warm and no condensation at all during any part of our cruise. The headphones were included and the audio commentary was interesting. The captain also added bits and pieces of extra info which was appreciated. It was a great introduction to the canals of Amsterdam as we decided to do this trip literally an hour after arriving in Amsterdam. It helped us with our bearings and with general historical info about the city. The reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is that we seemed to stay on one canal, no museums seen, no Anne Frank house, nothing like that, which was a shame as lots of tourists probably visit these places afterwards. Maybe the canal boat starting from the museums area take that route? We took the one from the station. There are lots of canal boat companies, but we were more than happy with Lovers as their boats appear a lot more modern than many others we saw. I would definitely recommend the cruise and my teenage daughter said it was one of the nicest things we did when in Amsterdam.
Great couples tour
A amazing tour with some great canal boat skills performed and a great host. This tour is very much for couples and being alone I felt a little out of place.
A Great Way To See The City
Done the open boat tour during the summer. A great way to see the city and the audio guide gave plenty of information along the way. Extremely relaxing to the point I almost fell asleep half way around. Would definitely do the tour again if I’m back in Amsterdam
Quick visit to see Amsterdam
Guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Although it rained, I still enjoyed the tour. The only complaint was the audio was difficult to hear at times.
Relaxing hour on the canals
Nice relaxing hour around the canals. Duco (sorry if I have not got the name correct) was informative with history and fun facts. Would recommend.
Good cruise
It was educational, slowed down at the right places. The pilot was polite and explained well- was fun and energetic.
Must Do Museum im Amsterdam
Super leckerer Kaffee nimm Café beim Souvenirshop
Museumserlebnis at it's best ...
Eine schöne Erfahrung also!
Absolut empfehlenswert
Sehr interessantes, toll gestaltetes Museum.
Sehr sehenswerte Ausstellung! Mehr Besucher sind aber nicht sinnvoll.
A top pick for Amsterdam
A must for anyone who enjoyed Van Gogh’ work. The self guided audio tour provided much wonderful information about his life and evolvement as an artist.we spent about 75-minutes. Important to book in advance during the summer months.
Beautiful museum of art
You will be dazzled by his work while his story is really sad. The talent that he had was unmeasurable. I’m glad I had the privilege to see his words of art definitely recommend going when they first open here or a few of beautiful work.
B st museum and excellent audioguide
Absolutely outstanding museum. And excellent audioguide. We actually went to a Friday night event at the museum w music and activities. The teens also loved the museum and the audioguide. 10/10!
Photos don’t do it justice
There is no other museum as well organized and providing in depth significant works of an artist. Pay specific attention to his significantly prominent brushstrokes progressing in depth and emotion, no other artist, depicting the emotional, cultural, and economical details of their subject as this incredible artist. He lived with and breathed in his subjects. This artist such a profound figure in the art world also provided us within his beautiful works of art the changes and development ever evolving through the centuries of art and artists at the time . Unfortunately, his mental instability cut short his life. Thank you to his sister-in-law and nephew for giving us the honor to see his miraculous art. Photos give it no justice so I post no photos. You can only feel it when you go there. Stand and look at the art don’t walk away.
Consigliatissimo
A MasterClass Tour of the Van Gogh Museum
The Van Gogh Museum is truly a marvel! Our group of five was brilliantly lead by our tour guide Anna N. who was not only passionate as she was knowledgeable but vividly articulate as she retold the prominent details of Vincent Van Gogh the artistic genius. Starting on the third floor, we explored some of the later “known” works which are best viewed from a distance that captures not only detail but the story and inspiration behind each piece. Anna, always the keen and insightful host challenged us to think beyond just mere curved brush strokes but the intentional dimensions added to each piece that gave life to Van Gogh himself. From treasured landscapes that depict life as Van Gogh saw it to his experimentation with self-portraits. If you are in Amsterdam for a day at least this tour is an absolute must see.
Loved it!
A true voyage to Van Gogh’s life! You can see the respect and dedication invested on this museum, and of course you have the privilege to observe some of his famous paintings. Second time I visit it and once again completely happy I did.
Didn't want to leave
I learned so much about Van Gogh's life and art. The collection is truly comprehensive, curated in a thoughtful, meaningful flow. I enjoyed seeing new works and appreciating their place in the artist's lifetime. Obviously, this museum gets very crowded, making it difficult at time to view the art. I recommend getting a ticket for as early in the day as possible. Don't miss any special exhibits that are included in your ticket. At the time of this visit, we saw the Anselm Kiefer collection and were impressed by its impact and the scale of the works. If you enjoy gift shops, there are several in the museum with a range of quality items. Very special place; I wish I could have stayed longer than the nearly 3 hours I did.
Great collection
Great Museum with magnificent collection of Van Gogh and other great paintings. Definitely something to do if you are in Amsterdam and you like art.
A beautiful dive into Van Gogh’s mind
I visited the Van Gogh Museum with a few friends, and it was honestly one of the highlights of our trip to Amsterdam. Whether you're an art lover or just curious, the museum does a fantastic job of telling Van Gogh’s story—not just through his paintings, but also with personal letters and context about his life.
A must in Amsterdam
This was one of the best museums I’ve visited. Self guided audio is very good. Staff was extremely nice during visit. Make sure you book in advance and try to go earlier in day as it gets more crowded as day goes on.
Book in advance
Excellent museum, loads of information even without guided or audio tour. Huge collection, a lot to see. You will need to book advance. We booked about 4 weeks before. It wasn't the busiest season in May, but still, the whole day was booked in advance.
An Inspiring and Romantic Stop for Art-Loving Couples
Visiting the Van Gogh Museum as a couple was one of the highlights of our Amsterdam trip. The atmosphere is intimate, reflective, and deeply moving—perfect for sharing a quiet, meaningful experience together. The museum is beautifully arranged, offering a thoughtful journey through Van Gogh’s life, from his earliest works to his final, emotionally charged paintings. Seeing masterpieces like The Bedroom, Sunflowers, and Almond Blossom up close was absolutely unforgettable. The personal letters and stories behind each piece sparked some great conversations between us—it felt like we weren’t just viewing art but getting to know the man behind it. The audio guide added even more depth and really enriched the visit. Tips for Couples: Book your tickets online in advance to secure your preferred time slot. Go early in the day or later in the afternoon for a quieter, more romantic vibe. Consider pairing your visit with a stroll through Museumplein or a cozy café nearby. Don’t rush—take your time and enjoy the calm. We left feeling inspired, moved, and more connected—not just to Van Gogh, but to each other. A must-visit for couples who appreciate art, history, or just a beautifully curated cultural experience.
Well worth the visit
This is a wonderful collection of the well known and rarely seen Van Gogh paintings. The exhibit is well laid out with English and Dutch descriptions. Be sure to get tickets well in advance, as they sell out quickly.
Consiglio
Ok but ticket price high
A pleasure to see masterpieces like this. However too many people are let in to allow quiet enjoyment. I wonder what the artist would have made of all these selfie addicted fools clambering to take a picture with the sunflowers. I hope he might have smiled at the irony of it all. His bio suggests a quiet and troubled man who may have been amused by modern times.
Great Experience
If you are at all a fan of art you should go to the museum. There is a very well done audio guided tour. If you are looking into stopping at the museum then you are clearly into art and it is a must stop.
Glad we pre-purchased tickets
I’m so glad I secured our tickets before our trip as entry is limited. When we arrived at the museum there was a line of people who were being turned away as they did not have pre-purchased tickets. We bought the audio tour and were able to see everything on the tour list in about an hour. We really enjoyed all the works in the museum and you were able to freely take photographs of the paintings.
Absolutely fantastic
Fantastic museum. Incredible to get to see so many Van Gogh pieces, some great pieces that I had not seen before, as well as getting to see the famous ones such as Sunflowers. We had 10:15 entry and would recommend try go as early as you can to enjoy as much as possible without crowds. However I think could be enjoyed regardless. Once in can spend as long as you like. Free place to store bags. !!book tickets in advance!! 100% recommend when in Amsterdam.
Cambierei l'illuminazione
Visita organizzatissima, precisione nell'orario, audioguida interessante, ben gestita
Arte e natura
A dir poco emozionante. Meraviglioso
The quintessential Van Gogh experience!
It had been 10 years since our first visit to the Van Gogh Museum. And this time they allowed photography (no flash). We had reserved time-entry tickets in advance of our visit at 11am. It was a short line to enter into the atrium reception area. There are free lockers to stow any large bags, coats, etc. After getting settled, we made our way up to the galleries to enjoy some Van Gogh categorized as Self Portraits, Inspired by. Landscapes, Everyday Life, Artistic Flourishing, Artistic Exchange, Everything for Vincent, and more. We spent about 3 hours wandering about the galleries, taking in all of these Van Gogh works and learning more about him and his life and his family. It was so interesting to see a couple hundred works by Vincent!! And to learn more about how he worked, especially once he added colors so brilliant to his paintings! This museum is worth a visit, especially if you have the time to view and appreciate individual works! Be sure to take a break and visit the cafe for a beverage and some down time. And before we left, we took in the Anselm Kiefer exhibition to see how Kiefer has been influenced by Van Gogh. Interesting to see his large-scale works and their intersection with Vincent.
Superbe exposition
Great Audio Guide
I'm not a big art museum person but felt like visiting the Van Gogh museum while in Amsterdam was a must. We went with our two teenagers. It surpassed my expectations. The audio guide was very well done. Several tour options to choose from depending on your time and interest level (with something for young kids). We did the highlights tour and it was perfect. Touched on about 20 pieces, explaining how it related to his life and artistic style/evolution. We were there for about an hour which was just right for our level of interest and teenagers' attention span.
Great emotions for magnificent paintings
Our group of friends had selected the Van Gogh Museum as one of the must-see places in Amsterdam. For me, it was the second visit, probably more appreciated because we took the time to wander around the entire museum (audio guide around the neck but not constantly used). It takes half a day (we had chosen a morning, it's a good choice !) to see (or see again) many of the paintings of this great painter, including famous canvases. The tour is very well done and we follow the life story in parallel with the painter's journey. Great emotions for this unforgettable visit!
Sempre emozionante
Worth the trip
If you decide to come here, make sure you get your tickets well in advance. Also, we prepaid the audio tour, which is well worth it. There is a line for your time slot and then you go in and get your audio in English and we did the highlights Tours we were only there one full hour, and it was more than enough for us. We are not into museums. The highlights literally give you the highlights of the three floors of the museum. If you’re in Amsterdam, it’s a must. Our ticket included entrance into modern art across the alleyway, which we went into as well. Worth seeing.
A must visit in Amsterdam
A must visit for any art, history lovers or bucket list chasers! One of Holland’s most famous individuals, the museum hosts hundreds of paintings and drawings included several of his most famous. Allow some time to access the museum, it was a bit of faff getting in scanning the tickets, but once you’re in, highly recommending picking up one of the audio tours. They are extremely beneficial and less than 4 euros! Allow 1-2 hours for your visit, and take note it closes at 18:00. So make sure you book earlier if you don’t want to be rushed for time. There are three levels to visit, with stairs and lift access, so it’s very easy to get around and also wheelchair friendly. Easy to locate in Amsterdam as well and the ticket prices are affordable. Overall a great visit and a must if you’re visiting Amsterdam!
Excellent Museum
We forgot to get tickets in advance but found out from the security staff the museum releases a block of tickets online at 5 pm the day before, so we obtained the tickets that way. The museum tells the life story through van Gogh’s drawings and paintings. The displays are well laid out and although at times a bit crowded, the other guests were quiet and courteous. We spent 2.5 hours in the museum and additional artists displays. It was a moving visit.
Anselm Kiefer tentoonstelling
We Enjoyed It
We arrived early after visiting the Rikjksmuseum. We were about 2 hours early for our ticket time and were hoping they would let us in. I wasn’t feeling great and when I told the ticket taker she let us in early. We thought the building was interesting and the art was great. We did have to leave our small bag in a locker. When we went to retrieve it the machine would not work. Others were having problems as well. Turns out you have to use the machine that is directly in front of the locker you are using. It was frustrating to be sure. Staff were more pleasant than the other museums we visited. Every place we went was very busy. We were told the summer months are much worse. I think anyone visiting mostly anywhere in Amsterdam should get tickets in advance to avoid either not being able to get in or long waits. And it’s much hotter than April, so consider having to wait in the heat without an advance purchased ticket.
Great place for art lovers
For a Van Gogh Museum, it doesn't have too many Van Goghs. There's good art on display, from various artists, and the museum is quite large. They don't allow large bags in, and have convenient lockers available - free to use. The tickets seel out in advance, so make sure to pre-book. Thes gift shop inside is quite nice too.
