This was a wonderful museum! Make sure you book well in advance. They have limited admission and it is by appointment. If you wait until the few days before you will likely be out of luck. Make sure you pay the fee for the multimedia player. Well worth the few euros.

Third trip here, and all have focused on a different aspect of Van Gogh's life. We really enjoyed our visit, got here early in the morning and while the museum was busy, it was easy to spend the time to stop and enjoy each of the paintings as we went through the museum. Enjoyed the special display of some of the few Van Gogh works that were on loan from private collections. Find a way to purchase a ticket, you will not be dissappointed.

Absolutely loved this museum, my sister and I got absorbed in it for hours. I didn’t know a huge amount about Van Gogh beforehand but by the end of our tour I felt like I had learned a huge amount. We found it very emotional learning about his mental health issues and loved how the museum didn’t shy away from this. Amazed also by how many paintings he had done and there were other artists’ paintings also on display which we hadn’t expected. We had a light lunch in the cafe which was very good. The shops had lovely things to buy and I felt more inclined to purchase after doing the whole audio tour. Loved the fact that the lockers were free of charge & all the hangers for coats. It was pouring rain while we were there and we left our umbrella in the stand to dry and it was still there 4 hours later. A fantastic experience.

Several years ago, I was delighted to go to the Immersive Van Gogh Experience in Paris. It was equally exciting to immerse in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam! What a great talent who was tormented for most of his adult life and died too young. Thankfully, his legacy lives on! The permanent collection includes over 200 paintings and 500 drawings of Vincent Van Gogh. The museum is well organized and takes you through the artistic maturity and growth of Van Gogh. Van Gogh lived with his brother Theo in Paris for a time. His early paintings were softer and resembled impressionist art. He later experimented using complimentary colors to give his art an emotional charge, as well as not painting scenes in their natural colors but contrasting colors to make them more dramatic. Many of Van Gogh's masterpieces were created after he was institutionalized, including Starry Night. Van Gogh only sold one painting during his lifetime - 'The Red Vineyard' - painted during his time in Arles, France. The Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, was probably our most memorable experience during our holiday in Amsterdam.

This is an attraction dedicated to one of the most notable Dutch figures in history, and I encourage you to visit if you appreciate his art and want to learn more about his life story. There appeared to be two buildings that are labeled the Van Gogh Museum. I was a little confused where to enter at first, but they are actually connected, and the correct entrance will be where you clearly see through the glass where there are escalators and a large walking area below. You will also most likely see a long line, so that's the biggest indicator that you're in the right spot. The second building is where guests can enter from inside to begin their tour and also head to the gift shop and exit the building. Make sure you arrive near your scheduled time, anything too early or too late will have you turned away at the front. Once you are inside, head down the escalators and go to the desk that provides the audio headset that guides you throughout your tour. Frankly though, it was more of an audio accompaniment to relax me amongst the large crowds. The headset should be used by approaching the painting that you want to learn about and pressing the play button to hear its history. However, because there were so many attendees and so little space to truly immerse yourself in Gogh's work, I just played everything back-to-back as I roamed around aimlessly. It did get a little calmer as I walked up the 2nd and 3rd floors, but I felt overwhelmed by the many people and loud noises about. Since this is a family-friendly environment, expect a lot of children/babies as well. I left the attraction overstimulated, regretting visiting on a Sunday afternoon. If I had more time in my vacation, then I would've visited on a weekday instead. The content itself expands upon the knowledge you may already have about the late artist; proving that there was more to his personality that the infamy he obtained from cutting off his ear. The museum does well in chronicling his beginning to his end, and why his work is still admired today. He is an inspirational figure who had a tragic life, but through that I learned to always try and improve myself and the support of your love ones can take you a long way in life. I'm glad I got to visit the museum. I advise future guests to visit on a weekday (during school hours), if possible, as it can get super crowded that you'll have to miss out on some art. Otherwise, the place was neat and informative, with so many cool souvenirs you could buy, I wish I could've bought them all. I only paid for a magnet and glasses case of my favorite painting that day, "Almond Blossom" because the story behind why Gogh painted it encourages me to love hard and stay strong even in the midst of internal struggle.

The Van Gogh museum really gave you a feel for Van Gogh's life and struggles. I highly recommend the audio tour and to take your time (we did NOT do the 45 minute highlight tour). We took our time and came away with a much better appreciation of his art and life. I never knew there were so many different versions of his self portraits. There was even a small Pokemon exhibit paying homage to Van Gogh.

Great viewing and educational experience. It is not only a viewing experience but a lovely but sad history of a genius. The museum itself is beautiful. We used a guide off Viator and was pleased. Also, it was convenient to use lockers to put our rain gear in. We took a picture of the locker number & input code we used. It’s easy to forget & many did. We were not told to reserve ahead but 2 weeks out, it was booked. Be sure to check ahead, we were able to fill in a cancellation before arriving. We used the Hop On Hop Off for transportation to the Diamond Museum & other sites, Museums to visit.

The Van Gogh Museum has an extensive collection of Van Gogh’s works and life story - together with some of his contemporaries. They have originals of many of his most famous paintings - as well as many of his early works. It's a very impressive, modern museum. Timed entrance reservations recommended - it's very popular and crowded even on weekdays.
