You Must “Gogh” Here
I’m not sure if my review is needed for this highly popular tourist spot, but I’ll leave one nonetheless… This museum really shows the breadth of work completed by Van Gogh, especially towards the end of his life. It was cool to see more than the “classics,” along with the little bits of history as well. It’s a pretty standard museum (text on wall + paintings), so when my boyfriend and I left we found ourselves saying, “Okay, that was fine.” But as the night went on, we found ourselves continuing to go back to paintings and ideas we noticed in the museum. The gift shop was pretty meh, but that’s not what you’re here for. Highly recommend buying your ticket beforehand because they do sell out!

Outstanding. Very well done. We learned about the man, his life and viewed his beautiful works of art. Well worth the time.

Un must

Well worth it!
Well worth it! I really learned about Van Gogh’s life from beginning to end. We didn’t get the audio tour which was fine but if you want even more detail I would recommend getting it for only 3.5 euro.

Interesting to also learn more about his personal history as well as art
Although not as busy as the Anne Frank house, it is also recommended to book tickets in advance. Incredibly interesting and informative with very helpful Museum Staff. It would be very very difficult to spend less than an hour here. Fortunately we had seen Starry Night at MOMA in New York so knew that it wasn’t housed here, however, this museum houses an incredibly comprehensive collection of his art (as well as a few personal pieces like his writing desk) including Sunflowers and The Bedroom (which interesting shows his blue jacket and straw hat, from one of the most well known of his self portraits, hanging behind the bed head). Definitely a “must visit” when in Amsterdam if you are at all interested in art. His history alone is incredibly interesting.

Molto interessante

If you love Van Gogh…go
I thoroughly enjoyed this museum. The lay out is logical. You follow Van Gogh’s development and story in a chronological order which I like. To see the influences come into his work and experimentation with colours, fascinating. The museum highlights his mental struggle but also the support he received from his brother. For me as well as the art the nod to Van Gogh’s sister-in-law as someone instrumental in his becoming a famous artist was a pleasure to read.

Tip for reserving your time slot
You need to book tickets in advance. We tried to book tickets on our phone and the process failed 3x. A museum staffer told us to book one of the free options to reserve a time slot, then pay upon arrival. You'll see zero-cost options on the ticket page. Choose one of those options for the correct quantity you need. Then once inside the museum, go to the counter to pay. Easy peasy. We booked a 7pm entry time. We got there early (6:30) but they let us in without question. The audio guide was worth purchasing, especially since the museum was crowded, making it difficult at times to get up close to the information cards on the walls. The museum is easy to navigate and offers a FEW places to sit (why are museums so stingy about seating?).

Loved Every Second, But You Must Like Art
We took our time, spending about 3 hours here, and it was definitely worth it. We opted to not do a guided tour and just wander ourselves. Was still able to learn plenty about Van Gogh, his influences, and personal life. Most of his masterpieces are here and many lesser known pieces as well. We were also able to buy tickets online the day before which was convenient.

Tips and hints
You’ve decided to visit this museum. Theres plenty of (mainly) Van Gogh artwork to see and its didnt disappoint. Well set out, themed etc. It was busy (September), timed entry (so book online early), audio guide was useful ( also book online, as they didnt have any units available for walk ins) especially as it was sometimes difficult to get close enough to read the explanations accompanying the artwork. A couple of cafes on site, werent busy, so you could have a break.

Beautiful museum
This is just a great museum, which is so different from most other museums. It has a large collection of the most diverse paintings, that tell the story of the Vincents life and artistic development. It's very well presented and I feel it really brings you closer to the painter.

Van Gogh visit
Excellent experience visiting the Van Gogh museum. Entry was easy with pre-booked tickets which is a must as the tickets were sold out on the day. While the museum was busy it was easy to navigate.

WOW
WOW I absolutely Love Van Gogh and this has been a bucket list for a while and I absolutely loved it, but be mindful its so busy so definitely book your tickets in advance Being able to see his paintings and learn about him (through the extra audio guide) was just amazing I love everything about this museum and was one of the highlights of my time in Amsterdam

Suggestions for viewing Van Gogh Museum.
Very comprehensive, good collection- though some of the most famous ones were not exhibited here- they are probably at various museums all over the world- such as no Starry nights, other sunflowers other Irises etc. Since those are so iconic, I wouldn't have minded seeing reproductions of those....I didn't think the Audio guide was necessary, unless you want to hear all the minute little details. You can go through the Museum at a comfortable pace in about 2.5-3 hrs. I suggest you hurry up the bottom 2 floors, because the best and latest works were on t top floor. Museum closes at 6 so book anytime before 3PM so you have time before closing.

Plan early to go - busy place.
This is a must see if you enjoy impressionist painters and Van Gogh. We bought tickets on line a couple weeks beforehand and it’s a good thing. They were turning people away since they had maxed out. So we got it and it was crowded. We enjoyed the exhibition on the top floor and most visitors must not have known about it since it was pretty empty. The level with most of Van Gogh’s works was very crowded, but if you could get around some of the small private tours that seem to enjoy camping right in front of a painting, you can have a good experience. The audio tour adds to the experience as it gives more insights and interpretations. For example, I hadn’t paid attention to how Van Gogh only used complementary colors in each painting or how he made a study of color. Interesting stuff.

Amsterdam bucket list item
One of the must-do’s in Amsterdam. Always a wonderful experience and I have visited several times. Booking ahead is strongly advised. Particularly during holiday times. Amsterdam gets very busy. The museum is very well structured and modern. A joy to stroll through and linger. It is situated in the city’s museum quarter, right next to the Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk and Moco. You won’t regret either of these!

A Journey Through the Artist's Life
The building is modern, and the interior is designed to feel very open. Early works depicting peasants greet visitors first. You can then view a rich collection of self-portraits, sunflowers, withered flowers, and works from his time in the hospital, all arranged chronologically. For those who may not have deep knowledge of his works, the audio guide is very helpful.

Educational and fascinating
The exhibition is on several floors and is spread out nicely so there is a lot of space for people. I think it is good they cap the number of people visiting each day so the crowds are manageable! My friend advised booking a week in advance and I’m glad I did as when we arrived it was sold out for the day! There is loads to see and every piece has a bit about it. There is lots to read so you can learn a lot. I would recommend getting the audio guide as several of the more famous pieces are numbered and you can listen to some further more detailed info about the pieces! I also didn’t know that the museum featured some pieces by other artists (such as Monet and Munch) so I was really happy to find this! At this exhibition you can see some of the most famous pieces of artwork ever! Fascinating experience!

Dream come true
Before I start this review, I wanna let whoever reading this review that visiting the Van Gogh Museum was literally my dream. The museum holds the most beautiful paintings that Van Gogh painted in his lifetime. I advice you to buy tickets online and also get the audio device available. It'll make your visit a 100% better as it will allow you to delve into the most famous portraits and paintings in a very close way, looking its implication of colours and even try fun experiments. Dear reader, don't miss the letter narrations that is spread across the museum floors. They all were narrated beautifully. Moreover, bring a small bag with you cause when you terminate your visit, you can take your bag onto the first floor to get souvenirs (but the security only allow small bags.) the souvenirs aren't very expensive and cost between €3-€20, unless you wanna buy the portraits that cost €115. There is also a small bar that you can chill for a while although closing times are very early. When I visited, the bar was closing but I was able to sit infront of the glass outlook that has a beautiful view into the Amsterdam streets.

Un musée à la hauteur du Peintre ! Merveilleux !
Espace immense, clair. Personnel accueillant et aidant. Réservation obligatoire. A découvrir absolument.

Fabulous
Excellent exhibition, audio tour was great. Far too busy though, so you couldn’t get to see some of the paintings properly as there was too many people

Good but busy
Amazing museum, great to see such iconic paintings. Only downside was the number of visitors that are allowed in on each time slot, making it difficult to get close to some of the more popular works of art.

Beyond my expectations!
I am a HUGE Van Gogh fan and have been four or five of his exhibits in New York and Chicago. To visit a museum devoted exclusively to his work is a dream come true! Of course seeing all of his paintings was an amazing experience. But the highlight of our visit was the tour we took with Wilma. It turned out that the four of us were the only people on our tour. She was exceptional. Her 90 minute tour brought life to the works of this troubled artist. She offered insights and background that I have never known. What a gift to having this lovely lady share her passion for her work!

Beautiful museum
This museum truly was lovely. It was super well organised and absolutely filled with many incredibly artworks - both by Van Gogh himself and by artists that inspired, were inspired by, or had relations with Van Gogh. It was a touching tribute to his life and legacy, and I especially enjoyed the temporary Matthew Wong exhibition and the similarities in his life and style to Van Gogh. The only negative is how crowded the place was, especially with larger tour groups, as it sometimes made seeing paintings difficult; especially the famous ones.

Informative and enjoyable visit to see this light display
Really enjoyed this light display. The setting was perfect to learn about these fabulous artists. It was held in a church and you had the choice to lie on the floor on beanbags or chairs. Very informative

Tolles Event

Immersive experience
A very cool experience linking the two great artists in a church we you are surrounded but their artwork screened onto the walls and ceiling. Music was emotive and the art stunning. Only downside is the audio which can be difficult to hear.

Came here with my partner without pre-planning our visit and found that to be no problem. Upon queueing up we found out that there was an English show in an hour and a half and that we could come back for that show. When we got back, we bought the tickets without any issues, made our way inside the church and found a beanbag to lay down on. The whole experience took about 45min and was absolutely beautiful to watch. They tell you the (a small part of) life story of Van Gogh and how that intertwined with Rembrandt, how the paintings got to be as we know them today and the visuals really captivate the words that are spoken. The visuals in general are absolutely captivating and very peaceful. For some the show was so peaceful they even snoozed off. Which was quite hilarious to see. I do have to say that the seating availability isn't the greatest for the angle you need to be tilting your head to watch the show for a long time. If you have a beanbag you are definitely a lucky person, since many complained about their neck afterwards. Overall a good experience, would recommend this for the arts enthusiasts out there.

Great price and worth the visit.
My husband and I really enjoyed this experience. It was a great way to increase our basic knowledge of both artists while enjoying the visuals of their works projected in a place they met. The experience was immersive and cut you off from the outside world. While we were a few minutes late, the staff were accomodating and the experience was worth our time. Would recommend.

What a wonderful way to enjoy both artists stories and feel as if you’re in the painting. You can stand, sit or lie down on large pillows. My daughter and I happened upon this immersive experience, offered in Dutch and English. A 360 degree projection in De Noorderkerk. The staff were gracious and kind! I couldn’t have asked for a better serendipitous immersive art experience. I highly recommend and would see again. Tickets can be bought at the door.

I wondered how it will be, the result for me is that I was very satisfied. Indeed, it is well done, both for images, Lights and sounds. I think I understand now better who is Rembrandt and I have to say that thanks to this show I also appreciate his paints...

An interesting take on same famous artists. Very comfortable seating and an all immersive viewing for 45 mins. If you want something a little different and not too much detail this is ideal. NB. You should know a little about the two and art before heading in.

Very nice environment , perfectly made installation! A lot of room for sitting. The old church keeps the vibe. And it is amazing to feel that Rembrandt and Van Gogh were in the same church sitting maybe on the same place. Both children and grandparents were in love. See more pictures and videos attached.

One of the best 3D projections experiences I have ever seen and a compelling story to go with it. We really enjoyed this production and the beautiful venue. Great attention to detail in the story, the visuals and a lovely soundtrack bring this entire experience to the next level. Highly recommended and, in my opinion, better than many other Rembrandt and Van Gogh Amsterdam attractions...

Gave experiance.

Beautiful and emotionally very touching! An absolute must for a real VanGogh fan! I also liked the overlays from paintings by both artists. And all this this presented in a beautiful very old church that both artists had visited during their time ! Stunning!♥️♥️♥️

How the lives of these two Dutch (and the world's) masters intertwined in an absolutely breathtaking digital re-imagined storytelling. It's a must if you visit (or live) in Amsterdam. Highly recommended!!!
