Absolut empfehlenswert
Sehr interessantes, toll gestaltetes Museum.

Sehr sehenswerte Ausstellung! Mehr Besucher sind aber nicht sinnvoll.

Worth the visit
The museum is dedicated to educating about Van Gogh - his life, relationships, and contemporaries. It is well laid out and contains several key originals including The Almond Tree and Sunflowers. Also a few self portraits. It is interesting to learn that Van Gogh didn't start painting until age 27 and died 10 years later. An enjoyable way to spend several hours.

Great experience- book in advance!
Well worth a visit. Book early or you won’t get in. It’s a time slot system - which is good for keeping numbers manageable and allowing you to get close enough to see everything. Plenty of other things to see and do around the whole museumplein area with other museums, stalls and street food with seating nearby. For coffee or breakfast go to Blush across the road, just beside the tram stop. It’s a number 2 or 12 tram from the front of central station

Nice
This was a large building and felt too big for what was there. I loved that they had there famous paintings there that I recognized. It was nice inside. It is by other museums. They had a nice sized gift shop with lots of options.

Well Designed Van Gogh Art Museum!
A great treasure of all Van Gogh’s paintings! Highly recommend taking the audio tour to get more detailed description of all his popular paintings! We booked our entry time at 9am which was amazing to get in before the crowd! Very well designed art museum!

Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam
Exceptional museum! I was able to enjoy pieces I have never seen before. As with any popular site I recommend purchasing tickets in advance and aiming to arrive at first opening to avoid the crowds. One thing I did not appreciate was the locker system. You enter a code (very publicly) It is an interesting system, never seen one like it, there are certainly benefits to most of the system...but the way you add your code I did not find secure/safe because others can very easily see what your code is.

Van Gogh in Context
Museum presents the career on Van Gogh in context with his contemporaries and his legacy. Many famous paintings are shown.

Well organized and informative
This museum is really well done. It tells the story of this unique artist and his struggles through his art and also unveils how he became a household name. The rooms flowed and kept the crowds moving. The audio guide was very informative and I recommend getting it.

Tutto perfetto, tranne le luci
I dipinti meritano mille stelle...belli, emozionanti, meravigliosi.

Worth the Cost of Admission
Amazing! Well done! Worth the cost of admission. Make sure to make your reservation as soon as tickets are available. We saw hundreds of people turned away while we waited for our timed entrance. We did the audio tour. It was worth the additional cost and really well done. It helped to guide you in the galleries. We took 2+ hours to get through the main collection. We could have used an additional hour to see the temporary exhibit. There were lockers to hold your belongings.

Mooie tentoonstelling

Tappa obbligatoria
Museo grande e ben strutturato. Nonostante fosse tutto soldout abbiamo fatto poca fila. Prezzi dello shop molto accessibili.

Worth it but come first thing in am
The collection is excellent though his most famous piece, Starry Night, isn’t here. The museum is organized nicely and does a great job of telling the story and history of VVG. Recommend buying the audio guide and buying tickets ahead of time for the first slot in the morning. We came at 10:30 on a Tuesday in April, and it was very crowded. So crowded that it impacted our enjoyment. You will be bumped, and you will get frustrated by the number of private tours talking loudly in front of the paintings. This isn’t a place for a leisurely, contemplative stroll.

Worth a Visit
Worth a visit. It gets very crowded and only a few places to sit down. There are lots of paintings to look at, the audio guide is very helpful. Younger children may get bored. Takes at least 3 plus hours to get round.
Apr 4, 2024I_am_wander-luster
Perhaps they need etiquette guides for visitors
So crowded, with very few places to rest & sit down if you have young children who get tired easily. Some children were sitting on the floor but with adults who basically trampled over them. Some visitors are so eager to get their perfect photos / selfies their behaviour verges on the absurd / parody. Staff were unfailingly friendly & helpful. They really should have a drinking water fountain though & more seating area. The permanent collection was good when the crowds thinned out but the real star of the show was Matthew Wong’s exhibit. The audioguide was thought provoking and moving. It made me find out more about this artist I’d never heard of before.

Great museum
I had just finished a fiction book about Van Gogh so it was lovely to actually see some of the paintings mentioned in the book. This doesn’t have all his paintings, but I really enjoyed a more personal look at the artist. I was able to borrow a wheelchair since I am on crutches and that made everything accessible. It did get crowded but was able to see it all.

Fascinating facts about Van Gogh with many artworks
Going on a Friday night you get some unexpected extras of yoga sessions and movement to bongs. The museum follows the Life of Van Gogh through the three floors and what was going on in his life at the time of painting. A fascinating look at the different styles of work from flowers landscapes still life portraits and Japanese style. It shows was a tortured soul Van Gogh was but had the constant support of his brother

A fabulous experience
I went to the Van Gogh Museum with a bit of trepidation as I'm not the world's biggest Van Gogh fan and I feared it would just be overload. My nervousness was not helped by the first room you come across being a series of self-portaits that kind of played into that overload concern. However, after that the collection developed into the most fabulous experience. There are of course many of Van Gogh's works, and some of them it has to be said are magnificent, but I really loved the focus on the realists that influenced him, his contemporaries and those who followed him. By the time you get to the second floor it's just banger after banger, such that the great exchange of self-portraits by Gauguin and Bernard are tucked away in a corner with hardly anyone looking at them. There are too many highlights to mention, but suffice to say that by the end I was much more in love with Vincent's work and sad that there wasn't another floor to see. I went on a Friday evening when it's late opening and spent from 6.00 till 9.00 there. I'm not sure it is always the same but there was an enormous queue to get into the Stedelijk next door but you could walk straight into the Van Gogh Museum. The staff were friendly at the entrance and even though I had a timed ticket they didn't seem to worry about whether you were early or late. There was a temporary exhibition of Matthew Wong's work on the ground floor, which I have to say doesn't seem very well coordinated with the Stedelijk who have their own large Wong exhibition on at the same time and that really is overload. It's worth going through though as it doesn't cost any extra and this is where they've put Van Gogh's 'Bedroom in Arles' on display. Finally, I'd advise leaving your coat in the free lockers as you enter as it got very warm inside the gallery even though it was a cold evening outside.

Impressionant!

Mixed feeling about this museum
I have mix feeling about my visit to this museum. While there are some great things about it was also a bit disappointing. Firstly you cannot bring bags into the museum (fully understand) and the locker system is really good. When you purchase your ticket online, which I did in advance add the audio tour. I strong recommend doing this as it is a wealth of information. The museum is set over 4 floors, you access the first via escalators and the rest via stairs. These stairs were starting to get a bit congested while I was there. Even though I had tickets for 9.30 the museum was already busy and I dread to think what it is like in high season. If you cannot handle the stairs there are two elevators which do get busy. There are a few places to sit but these get taken very quickly. The paintings are arranged in sections including his self portraits, early works, later work and so on. I did find the inclusion of other artist in amongst these sections a bit of a distraction and acted like a bit of a filler. You can get very close to the art pieces themselves, but it does get very crowded. This is where I had a bit of an issue - tour groups. Seriously you do not need to visit this museum with a group. There were several when I visited and they stand on mass in front of the painting making it near impossible to get past or to see the paintings. There was one private group - a family of 5 and the tour guide stood right in front of painting blocking the view, while explaining details for several minutes and taking out an iPad so the family so see close ups, this is very unnecessary. Seriously if the family had the audio tour I feel they would have gotten as much information that was required. I also feel that this museum has become one of those places that is a “tick off” on a list. There are definitely people who have no desire to be there - one teenager was making it very well known in a loud voice. The painting collection itself is good, but don’t expect to see the several of the “must see” pieces created by Van Gogh in this collection. Unfortunately these pieces are spread across the world in other big collections which is a shame as there they might only be one amongst many other paintings. There are stand outs in this collection and the museum does do well to showcase them. It is more of journey through his creations and explaining how developed into the artist. One the ground floor, where the lockers and audio tour pick up is there is a good museum shop if you want to purchase anything with several of the collection artworks featured. Would I recommend going to the museum, yes I am happy that I did go just a few things did make it not as good as I would have expected.

Molto buona

Worth the trip from London by itself.
The chance to visit the Van Gogh museum was one of the main reasons I spent a few days in Amsterdam, and I wasn't disappointed. First, a word of caution - book in advance! I was caught out on my first attempt to visit by finding that all slots for the day had already been booked. Fortunately, managed to get a ticket from the website for the next morning without much hassle. It's reasonably priced at about £25. Somehow, the lockers are FREE (!), but be sure to start your day early, as they're on a first-come-first-served basis. You don't even need a token, just to remember a six-digit unlock code! The personalised audio tour was a real bargain at about £5 - significantly less than it would be to hire a guide, and you can go at your own pace... A really great option if, like me, you're autistic and just want to wander quietly without having to interact. I did notice people in a group next to me saying they were having problems with theirs, but I didn't experience any of that. As for the art... what can I really say? I've been lucky enough to see a few of Vincent's works in the Muse D'orsay and some other places, but the size of the collection on display here dwarfs them all. The layout takes you through his early influences that lead to a fixation on simple, rural life; through his Paris period, where he matured and developed his personal style and finally in to his latter days in Arles. If you're interested in Vincent, o in art in general, it's wonderful. if you're not, I'm curious about why you're reading this review, let alone considering going!

Wonder museum
Lovely to see the original works of Van Gogh and hear about his life. You learn how his struggles impact him and his work. Wonderful museum.

Awesome museum, takes about two hours to go through, very well done
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Amsterdam for me personally. I thought the museum was very well organized, and a great variety of work from van Gogh was on display. We got advance tickets for 9 AM so that we could get it before the museum got too busy, because it was definitely crowded by 10 AM. We visited in March, and I can only imagine how busy it gets in the summer.

A must Gogh!
Such great paintings here! Most of them are Van Gogh classics, so this museum is like nothing you’ve seen before! It’s a little expensive though, Rijksmuseum is honestly a better deal and has much more art, but Van Gogh museum is defiantly a must go whether you’re a local, or visiting Amsterdam! Such cool art from Gogh and others and it tells you a ton about Van Gogh’s life as well!

New discoveries
Van Gogh is instantly recognisable in his art, so visiting the museum housing his biggest art collection was something not to be missed. To be expected, so much better in person! We thoroughly enjoyed the journey through Vincent’s life and his inspirations, and experienced a clearer understanding of the man behind the art. The joy and happiness he felt in the rural countryside, his close bond with his brother as well as the challenges he faced - and his everlasting legacy in the colour he brings to future generations. Fittingly, the exhibition awes with those most famous pieces like ‘Sunflowers’, but also introduced us to new favourites, best brought to life in person, like ‘Almond Blossom’. A visit to Amsterdam is not complete without playing homage to one of its best known sons. Amazingly a decade of intensity created his artwork of over 2000 pieces, none of which sold in his all to short lifetime. We are all very fortunate to be able to share in his creations.

Van Gogh was a Machine
The brush strokes. They’re magic! The thicker and wider, the more magic! Van Gogh considered himself a failure… My hope is that Van Gogh knows how much his works are celebrated, respected and appreciated. Many of these impressionist artists didn’t live to see their significant success and impact on the world. He took his life at 37 years old due to multiple bouts with mental health! I know a lot about Van Gogh but here is what I learned on this visit. 1. He drew 1100 works. I knew he dabbled in etching/drawing but I had no idea there were 1100 works. 2. He produced 900 paintings in 10 years. I knew he died young but I didn’t know the amount of paintings he produced in that time. This is on average…a painting every 30 hours. Math Break - that is 2,000 works in 10 years! 1100 drawings and 900 paintings! So Van Gogh was a machine! 3. Van Gogh painted himself because he couldn’t afford models. He also painted over his art works and on the other side of his art works because the canvases were so expensive. 4. Van Gogh’s mental health doctor was Dr. Gachet. I didn’t know he lived with his doctor for some time and his doctor was also an artist. Greatly enjoyed this visit! Will be back!
