His most famous works
Van Gogh has made many famous works of art in his lifetime. These are some of the most recognizable ones.
- Sunflowers
Vincent van Gogh made many different versions of the ‘Sunflowers’ painting. The Van Gogh museum exhibits the repetition of the 4th version, which shows a vase of sunflowers against a yellow background. Van Gogh painted them in France in 1888 and 1889 to show that you can make a painting with numerous variations of a single color. - The Potato Eaters
Vincent van Gogh deliberately chose a difficult concept for this painting to show his talent as a painter. On the painting, you can see a family eating their dinner. It depicts the hard life of the working class. - Bedroom in Arles
This is a painting of the room Vincent van Gogh stayed in while he was in Arles. He painted the room with simple furniture in it and art work made by himself on the wall. Over the years the color of the painting changed. The blue was for instance originally purple. - Almond Blossoms
The painting of the Almond Blossoms against a blue background was made by Vincent van Gogh for his brother Theo to congratulate him on the birth of his son, Vincent Willem. The boy was named after his uncle. Vincent Willem went on to found the Van Gogh Museum.
