Amsterdam Light Festival 2021 - 2022

In the dark winter months, Amsterdam will once again transform into a beautiful open-air museum filled with light art during the Amsterdam Light Festival. Modern artists from all over the world make spectacular light artworks that can be found in the city centre of Amsterdam.

The 10th edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival has the theme Celebrate Light. With this theme the festival will celebrate both the light art they have displayed in the past and shine a light on social issues to remind guests that not everyone is able to participate in the celebrations. The art collection of this year's anniversary edition consists of the most appealing, inspiring and popular artworks of the past nine editions as well as new artwork.

The best Semi-Open Boat tour of the Amsterdam Light Festival

The best way to enjoy the festival is with a Amsterdam Light Festival cruise. This Amsterdam Light Festival Semi-Open Boat tour will give you the best view of the beautiful light sculptures as you cruise through the canals of Amsterdam.

When the stars are out your view will be unobstructed so you can make the most beautiful photos of the twenty or so light artworks on display. You will also be provided with blankets, to keep away the winter chill. If the winter weather turns wet, the boat is easily closed with a glass-top or a regular canal boat is used. Either way, with a canal cruise you are certain to have the best seats to take in the festival.

This cruise departs next to Café-Restaurant Loetje, across from Amsterdam Central Station. From here, the Lovers Canal Cruises Semi-Open Boat will take you on a 75 minute cruise along the Amsterdam Light Festival water route, which allows you to see all the art of the festival.

Along the way, the audio guide, in Dutch & English, tells you more about the beautiful light installations you pass by. The coldest and darkest months of the year will be a lot lighter and cosier with Amsterdam Light Festival semi-open boat tickets.
